Armor Mitigation Chart

I agree with this bump, this information is not widely spread enough.
Armor is the least tanky defense in PoE simply because it gets relatively weaker the harder you get hit for. Tanky by defintion is to stand up to the largest hits, Armor does not serve this purpose. Don't try to factor in endurance charges, enfeeble, or flasks because ALL characters can use those and benefit from them equally, even evasion characters. IGN: OldManBalls (Warbands)

" And yet... endurance charges, block, enfeeble, flasks and auras are all in an amazing synergy with the armour. You statements would be correct if players use only armour. Armour is, and should be, the best way to mitigate damage. |
|
" they have the same or better synergies with evasion endurance charges reduce the damage you take by a flat amount simultaniously with armor, aka armor is not affected at all by the reduction in damage due to endurance charges. Evasion gets the same reduction but gets hit less often. Enfeeble reduces mob damage agasint armor which makes armor more effective, but it also reduces the damage done to evasion characters in addition to reducing the mobs accuracy which helps evasio greatly (similar to blindness). block rolls separately from both evasion and armor, helping both equally Flasks help both evasion and armor, armor slightly more due to acrobatics 50% armor reduction. however, even when armor is boosted with flasks it is still affected by large hits. Auras help armor more, but most armor users are not using both determination and grace. Grace helps evasion same as it does armor with IR. Honestly, there is no reason to bring these things into the discussion since they are usable by both evasion based characters and armor based characters and benefit both nearly equally. When it comes down to it, armor is an early-game defense and evasion is an end-game defense, there is no denying that armor is NOT tanky. IGN: OldManBalls (Warbands)

"armor is an early-game defense and evasion is an end-game defense"
- not for melee, for ranged I have no idea, I've heard split opinions. 15% block mod from BoR is useless, because what's 15% on top of 60%? Now re-read (or read?) my post. Key word: synergy EDIT: forgot to add the Arctic Armour on top of everything. Last edited by tinko92#6447 on Feb 27, 2014, 1:25:18 PM

" First, i will say that I am an evasion based melee character. Have you ever played a full evasion based character? 2nd, idk why you're mentioning BoR, it wasn't in either of our posts and the block on it is no different than regular block. (read: doesn't benefit armor more than evasion) 3rd, I don't know how i can be any clearer in addressing the points of your post. I addressed each item that you claim makes armor a worthwhile defense, and showed how each one -synergizes- with evasion similarly to the way it does with armor. given all equivalent -synergies- an evasion based character's survivability will far surpass an armor based character's. if you're also reading the other thread, i explain how armor can be used to obtain 100% physical immunity by synergizing with other defenses. Yet I'm using evasion on my main (and plan to in the next league) if that tells you anything. IGN: OldManBalls (Warbands) Last edited by demivion#2965 on Feb 27, 2014, 1:29:33 PM

" I noticed that you dont have any high level Hardcore characters. Perhaps if you played HC youd see the truth. Synergy is great for trash yeah, but when you need it most... youll be wishing you had more hps instead. For years i searched for deep truths. A thousand revelations. At the very edge...the ability to think itself dissolves away.Thinking in human language is the problem. Any separation from 'the whole truth' is incomplete.My incomplete concepts may add to your 'whole truth', accept it or think about it

@demivion
I was searching the thread where all arguments regarding evasion - armour was delivered, I noticed you're one of the posters there, so there's no need to rewrite everything again. " Are monsters in HC different to the ones in standard? In fact, HC shouldn't even be the comparison pole, since the hardest content is skipped 99%+ of time. But alright, name me one melee full evasion character 90+ lvl on HC, and if there is one, let me see videos of the hardest mods on the highest maps. That synergy isn't even needed for trash, armour by itself is the thing for the trash attacks. Also, higher life pool is the armour thing, not evasion. |
|
" Yes, armor is king of trash mobs that stand no chance of killing anyone anyways... lol Higher life pool is reachable with evasion, there's nothing inherently different between an armor character and an evasion character that would mandate they have less HP. IGN: OldManBalls (Warbands)

" Acrobatics part of the skilltree has less HP nodes(assuming you go for acro + ondar's guile which is a no brainer). Last edited by kasub#2910 on Feb 27, 2014, 2:04:46 PM

" Other than more life nodes out of the dexterity tree area, there's an item that gives a lot of base life and zero evasion. And through the strength attribute. In the end, yes, evasion characters generally have quite less total life. |
