No Christmas Sales at GGG?!?!?
|
What would go on sale? The Support packs? They're just that, "Supporter" packs. Regardless of all the cool stuff you get, the reason anyone should buy them is to directly support GGG and their very promising ARPG they've created - with a scheduled 10 years of development down the road.
Come January 23rd, GGG is not only offering an amazing game - but they're offering it totally free, all content...totally free. For that, everyone should be grateful. The cool stuff you get in the supporter packs - that's GGG's way of saying thank you for supporting them to get this game up and running, you're not buying the cool merchandise or the kiwis, you're supporting them long-term in helping mold PoE into the greatest ARPG of all time. Personally I think it's quite tacky and tasteless to be asking for a discount on supporting something you love. You wouldn't go forth in asking for discounts in your support of any other charity driven event, why would you on this? The people asking for discounts are solely looking at these packages in a "what can they do for me" instead of a "how can I support them". |

Elynole sums it up quite nicely to be honest. You're donating to the game, the cute little kiwi and perks are just a thank you from Grinding Gears.
It'd be similar to going to Kickstarter and wondering why their isn't a discount on the donations you can give there. It's plain silly. Upon Open Beta I can see how something like this would make sense though, since you'd really only be buying micro-transaction points (though i'v heard tell of different types of donor packs for OB). Barring the fact that you are buying GGGold and it's not really a donation even if you are doing it in a charitable spirit, Ely is bang on.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

" Honestly, I'd have to say that there does seem to be a bit of elitism based on financial contributions, it is not all that extreme or too generalized though (but it may prove to be at some point). If you're under the illusion that financial support doesn't grant a higher sense of entitlement or preferential treatment (not that there's anything wrong with this), you're just seeing what you want to see. Investment of any sort (but particularly for something as valued as money) in anything really does change or play a factor in behaviour. It serves to create deeper attachment and higher status, apart from the charitable notions and/or rewards. I clearly remember cases where supporters would use their support status as leverage in arguments, even regarding balance. I value my time and effort (substitute with money here) for instance (even if you don't), that alone sets up some attachment, when something devalues that and lessens the attachment, I get affected. This thread goes to show how that works, some people aren't affected by the notion of reduced financial support, but others are because it devalues their contributions relatively. |

" This should never happen. The majority of GGG's support money hasn't come from Diamond or Gold supporters. It's come from the 10 dollar keys and lower supporter packages that have flooded in. If someone with a higher donation amount uses their financial status to leverage anything then they obviously supported for the wrong reasons. Maybe I'm different but I just look at the individual. If you frequent the class/suggestion/beta feedback forums you can tell that there are those that give solid, consistent feedback about the game - regardless of the financial status that they're in - this is the greatest gift any player could give to GGG or the community seeing as this in Closed Beta. |

" And hidden within this is an interesting point actually. "If" GGG we're to sell discounted packages ... in essence it would mean they would be taking a loss on their GGGold. I often refer to it as "donating", but i really should correct myself, because dollar for dollar GGGold is matched for the support put in. My bad. Anyways - i believe in this game. It believes in me. 45 Chaos 2 days - im a machine. Inb4 someone trolls me with how much more they found in an hour. O.o Cheers. GGG - Why you no?

" Didn't you do an I Quit PoE post? I really respected that. So...you're going to play the forum game without playing the actual game? Respect that far less. I will answer my rhetorical query: the people who stand highest in this community come from all levels of support, because there are so many ways to show your passion for PoE. I will leave it at this: not many of the alpha members are diamonds. Virtually none of the beta ladder top tens are. Builds of the week...I don't think even one of those was done by a diamond and not even many golds. I have expressed my concern in the past that I may have bought my PoE status and direct contact with the devs. Certainly not the mod thing -- else we'd have over ninety new mods. But I know I am pretty crap at the game and that feedback from better players is far more valuable. So if I am talking PoE with a dev, it is usually to promote someone else's post. So yes, I may have bought the devs' ear, but I sm super conscious to use that ability for others when possible. This is, to me, a form of noblesse oblige or whatever the crap the term is. To conclude: supporter packs exist to show your support. They are, however, not the only way and I would argue they are indeed s more selfish and easy method of supporting GGG. Thus supporter packs only go so far, and to think you are any more special or important yo the game just because you threw some money at it is really foolish. It is in your conduct, your feedback and general desire to help make PoE work that people will respect you, and you sure as hell don't need a supporter tag to do any of those. Edit. Many typos. Phone. Sorry. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between. I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
