Throwing Weapons?

I think your talking about a boomerang. Japanese had a weapon called a Kusari-fundo which was essentially a chain with a weight on the end. If used effectively was quite a dangerous weapon.
Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.

It can just be made a skill gem to throw your 1 handed weapon. -dmg % scales with the level of them gem.
There was a d2 complete overhaul mod that had a barbarian class based around this. Cheaper than free... Speedtree

I like the sound of throwing weapons, it would give more classes the option of using ranged attacks if that is what the player feels like doing, you could have throwing axes more strength based and throwing knives or more ninja like ranged weapons based on dex/int like the melee daggers are.
It would have to be balanced that a ranged axe is less damage than a melee one due to the perk of distance, but that's a given. Hadn't really given it much thought before, good one. |

im not so sure about throwing weapons, might be cuz i have so bad memorys about them from D2.
I remember some D2 Mods where u could play some chars with them, but there stacks always depleted so fast :/ It would be nice to have a skill gem for that though. As others mentioned befor, a skill gem that lets u throw ur melee weapon. A single target skill for 1hand weapons and an area skill for 2handed weapons. (i dont care how realistic this might be, its a game afterall) maybe diffrent effects based on the weapon type. One could just do damage, another dmg and slow or stun etc. |

Throwing weapons would allow more options for your build.
For example you could build mele char thrower ,because some of the throwing weapons would need more str. For example : In diablo 2 i haven't seen any strong barbarian bow builds. So there could be throwing axes, maces etc. I never liked using bow ,but i would think about axe thrower build Repent! That's what i'm talking about!

you have never heard of bowbarians ?
Didn't you play much d2 online? They did shit loads of dmg. Almost hit as hard as bowazons Cheaper than free... Speedtree

I dont know about PvE ( PvE was actually easy with any character ) But in PvP i owned them pretty hard with my charger,orbsorc,hammer.... Repent! That's what i'm talking about!

" A while ago I wrote about how I thought a boomerang could work... " A Kusari-fundo sounds interesting, but from this video, it does not seem like it is a throwing weapon... More than that, GGG seems to be trying to appeal to Western audiences, who would be unfamiliar with such a weapon's cultural connotations. |

One of the realistic problems is that throwing weapons are very impractical. Outside of javelins, very few throwing weapons actually found significant use in battle. In all cases, throwing weapons were never used for their ability to kill or injure opponents which is very low compared to other ranged weapons like bows and slings. Throwing weapons were used primarily for their morale impact as well as their ability to cause some disarray in the enemy lines. The Romans would throw their pila, the Franks (and other Germanic tribes) would throw their hatchets, etc, right before they charged the enemy to cause confusion and break up the enemy lines so their charge could be more effective.
My point is that the idea of using a throwing weapon as a way to regularly and reliably kill opponents is wrong. It's a myth perpetuated by movies because it looks cool but it has no grounding in practical fact. I'm not saying that we shouldn't have any weapon throwing skills. I definitely think there should be some because they are cool. Let's just keep things in perspective. Forum Sheriff

" Well yes, but the game doesn't have to have damage mirror real world application. I have a hard time finding people with ability to summon dead and fireballs. I get that a level of realism is expected and helps immersion, but at the end of the day PoE is a game rooted in fantasy. So you could say a Tomahawk does twice as much damage and never misses, but is very slow. The trade off being you can carry a limited amount and such. Modeling the games damage outputs 100% of the real world doesn't seem to offer any advantages. Yes good sir, I enjoy slaying mythical creatures.
