How will bot farming and 3rd party currency sales be combated?

I'm not going to say where or when... But I've already seen ads selling Chaos orbs for $0.50. And it's not even OB yet!!

The fact that one can easily make as many PoE accounts as they wish without much worry of being banned, on top of the bots that will be made.. I can already see, poewalmart.com 20 Chaos orbs/$10. 40/$19. Mirrors $49.99. Buy now!!

Anything planned for these guys?

We can hope something is done, but realistically you can't. Anything with a currency system can be manipulated into real life money.

Botters will run bots, GGG can take some steps to reduce the impact in game, but a never ending arms race against botters will end up taking resources from development of game features.
The best and only defense we have against botters is to not buy from them, if there is no market for botters selling items for real currency then the only botters we will deal with are the amateur ones who bot for them selves and they frequently have little impact.

One method that will make a significant difference is the Moderator. They can IP block and/or ban accounts that advertise in chat. This will help to a limited degree.

There's two different questions here.

Botting is simply against the rules and against fair play so GGG will have some ways to monitor this.

Botting is going on in a lot of games unfortunately and it's hard to deal with effectively.

3rd party currenry sales is another question altogether.

Lot of people want to buy items from games with real world currency and this is basically not possible to combat. I also believe that GGG has said that they currently have no intent on disrupting this but I could be wrong.

The question isn't how to combat currency trading for items. That is something that is going to occur no matter what. Look at drugs for example. No matter how much money they throw at drugs, it happens and lot of people die and lot of people go to jail and a whole bunch of money gets wasted trying to combat it.

Look at what prohibition did with alcohol. It gave rise to more organized crime and people still went out drinking anyways!

Currency trading is another example of something that some people don't like. That's fine. There is currently no real feasible way of controlling it so game companies shouldn't waste resources dealing with something they can't do well.

The argument isn't that since it isn't 100% preventable, to give up. The point is, is this something really worth time and resources to focus on?
yes it's worth the time to focus on otherwise players will simply stop playing.

Do you mean focus on botting? Or do you mean currency trading for items? Or do you mean both?
I remember Chris saying on Kripp's chan that GGG got some "tools that will help".

The fact that there is no gold and that a consequent part of the competition will take place on short term leagues might reduce bots' impact too...
Take care out there.
I know how to beat botters... Make the entire game perma cuttthroat mode... And go bot huntinag ;p
