Fix Raise Spectres disappearing when logging out
|
From what I can gather, specters base themselves off a temporary mob, instead of anything carried on the player. Hence when the game closes, the data is cleared from the RAM.

Fact is: We don't know the implementation behind this. If Mark says 'it's not that easy because our storage design doesn't allow it at the moment' - then that's how it is.
It doesn't help anyone to drop semi-educated knowledge bombs like 'just use the code for eternal orbs and imprint the current spectres into the gem'. |

" Animate Guardian also behaves on the player's behalf. No difference there. It has NO different attributes depending on how it was cast. If you're talking about the modifiers from the level of the Raise Spectre gem and its support links, it's the EXACT SAME system currently used by the Animate Guardian gem. Storing that information is as simply as "Player A has Monster #123 as a follower, with X multiplier on damage and skills according to Y,Z,A,B support gems". None of these variables are more complicated to store than an item's base stats AND suffixes + affixes. " You're guessing just as much as I am and somehow my logic and thinking should be discredited, just because I am not educated as a computer science major? I don't know how recruiting is done where you are, but frankly if a programmer cannot explain what their programs do in a layman fashion, he or she should not be considered as a viable candidate. |

" I don't know what you want anyone to say. One of the developers of the game replied in this thread that it was not as simple as you were guessing. The rest of us can only guess since we don't have access to the code. So, what is it you want? Would you rather the developers took the hours/days/weeks it would take to explain their code to everyone instead of working on the game? The point is that it takes years to become a good developer, but you're expecting someone to explain that to you in one post. It's not that simple. |

" 1. Simply because they can explain something to you in a simple way, doesn't mean they are actually explaining anything to you of substance, and your ability to accept their answer isn't reflective of actual content. Also, a programmer (or anyone else in a technical field) isn't required to be able to explain what he does to you, he's required to code or perform the function of that field. 2. Some things are complicated and cannot be dumbed down, this isn't a failing of the person being asked the question. Hawking can write a book for everyday folks about physics using clever analogies, but that doesn't mean any of those people have a fucking clue what they are talking about when they quote the book at cocktail parties. " Who? We, even the programmers in the community have no idea how this is implemented. There may be educated guesses based on experience but it's still not worth a dime. Mark doesn't have to and obviously doesn't want to give further insight into the workings of their system. That's GGG's right, PoE is not Open Source. So please, stop it here, you got a dev answer - if the answer given doesn't satisfy you, sorry. |

I rather summon my monsters again than have them already when i login. I would feel even lazier than i already am with my summoner.
You people are just too lazy to go to the solaris temple and grab your OP sentinel spectres. |

I think when people say something is 'simple' they do not mean cut n' paste, but rather that you have already figured out and created a system in place with the animate guardian spell where you can make a minion exist between sessions.
The complexity would be to able to alter raise spectre to create an object which could utilise the animate guardian functionality of persisting between sessions. That would likely require complete re-coding of the raise spectre spell to create a permanent object rather than the temporary one it currently does. I think people in general do not appreciate the complexity of coding in general. Unless the code was specifically coded to be portable then it could be very complex to take it out of one spell and apply it to another. | |
" Oh no, does this mean we aren't gonna get the job we don't wan't, didn't apply for, and don't care about? Damn, that sucks. |
