Staff Master - an attempt.
i can sell you a nice staff for failry cheap if ur standard
ign: shmear to be honest if you play that knockback tree you will get raped in maps and kill yourself to reflect, knock back isnt good on cyclone and if you use sweep it has its own knockback but sweep sucks ass cyclone with staff is best Last edited by DutchRudder#4293 on Nov 11, 2013, 6:38:30 AM

Unfortunately I play in Domination.
What about Knockback on Ground Slam? |

Hi all,
I also play a staff templar - but the build is optimized for HC (Nemesis). Although I just started, I'll share some of the issues that lead me to the build. The core of the build is obviously to use staffs :). I thought about the following points: -> Why do I use this weapon type? - Staff provide chance to block and knockback on crits - what do I want to have in my build? -> Use 'Resolute Technique' (Never crit, nerver miss)? -> will be lower damage but also no nodes for accuracy to invest. (also - no knockback from crits) -> 2 hand weapons offer great nodes with increased stun on opponents, do I want to invest into these nodes? In HC the primary target is to survive - so for my attempt, i want to maximize the chance to block as a "base requirement". Knockback on crits is a nice thing to have, but it spreads the nodes very thin, also i'd have to invest into accuracy nodes. I wanted to stick with Knockback but not from passives, which leads me to Heavy Strike as primary Skill. It skales very nicely and can be linked to fit various criteria (added fire damage / melee splash / multistrike ...). That's the base for my build: - max block - resolute technique - utilize knockback using heavy strike That gives plenty room for indivualization. I focus on % life, +all resists and 2 hand damage / attack speed and endurance charges.

Use 'endurance charge on stun' and u never run out of charges. One could also cnage the build to a lightning strike build, using more elemental damage nodes and 'Static blows' node. Thats my thought process behind my build. If u see any errors or things i could do better, i'd appreciate comments! |

was wondering about a staff build (am incredibly new to this game started playing about 3 days ago) The main attack would be glacial hammer... is this viable? Last edited by Maurv#5782 on Nov 12, 2013, 6:31:13 AM

I canceled the route over scion and added health nodes on the way from marauder to duellist and duellist. I also canceled the massive dexterity route south of duellist and got additional staff talents with more damage + attackspeed of duellist tree. also, i added two endurance charges. Glacial hammer scales 50% off physical damage, so i feel the 3 points in 18% cold damage nodes are kind of expensive, i also switched switched them. I didn't track the actual changes in +%life, strength and damage but you should be better with this build. Plus you can decide what skills u take - u should be fine with glacial hammer, lightning strike or added fire damage on any physical strikes. Small hint: if you rush staff talents, also get fast unwavering stance (which will prevent block animations), since the block animation can interrupt some actions (like leap) which can kill you. Looks cute. I've got a 350~ dps crit staff in SC, was thinking of a flicker build but more likely to go spec throw now.

So I've been using this build :
http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgUAhMREcop0D1SpaBRNogAEs4FvnjxN2Ix28B_FipMHRY69Obdy1Ys62Ow4GjinhJBVwBpZ86yqxuciG7lDp6VKLnKp9zIW-Yg4nYpUkWag-4tmnnFNms9DY7cxWPWdxPrSHRSPRoFJsjhmT9DQm6H311tZn7RYrvjr_7AE5HXQz2VVxjbp42ot0iftGS7ZYVcNkc677dSPud3yL-8O51JUSV8_0iGezacw974UIFBHFm8YXYM473x8u_NxAnE= And I'm currently in Act3, Cruel. Still doing quite okay. Now that I've given it more thought, I pinpointed the items that I need : 1. The Bringer of Rain Gems in this item are Supported by level 18 Melee Physical Damage Gems in this item are supported by level 18 Faster Attacks Gems in this item are Supported by level 18 Blind Adds 20–30 Physical Damage (200 to 300)% increased Armour and Evasion +(200 to 220) to maximum Life 10% chance to gain an Endurance Charge when you Block Extra Gore Can't use Chest armour 15% Block Chance 2. The Anvil 10% reduced Attack Speed 10% reduced Cast Speed +(400 to 500) to Armour +(30 to 40) Life gained when you Block +(15 to 20) Mana gained when you Block 20% reduced Movement Speed +3% to maximum Block Chance 10% Block Chance Reflects 200–250 Physical Damage to Attackers on Block 3. Rainbowstride (20 to 25)% of Block Chance applied to Spells +(80 to 100) to maximum Mana (150 to 200)% increased Energy Shield +8% to all Elemental Resistances 20% increased Movement Speed With all of that, I'd be hitting 60% chance to block (with a 18% block staves) - and some nifty effects from the Anvil when I do. Rainbowstride will allow me to bypass the movement speed penalty and give me a chance to block spells as well. More importantly, I'll be still using a 2H weapon with all that block and hitting for significant damage. How does it look? Last edited by Saprezzan#5351 on Nov 14, 2013, 5:22:47 AM

On a related note - I'm beginning to suffer from very low accuracy - now it's at around only 80%.

Some tips for new players
1. knockback might seem like a good idea but it doesnt stun and just makes it more tedious to kill monsters, for instance if you have ground slam you want them to be stunned and in your ground slam area, you dont want to knockback monsters because then you constantly need to reposition, it is best used as a ranged character to keep monsters at bay 2. for a 2 handed build resolute technique overrides crits, having 100% chance to hit is too good and its a very small investment in skill nodes wheras crit takes alot of crit nodes and a bunch of accuracy nodes, sure if you have a build that is crit orientated and takes advantage of crits it is better but not many skills that are used by 2 handers benefit greatly from crit compared to spells which can proc effects like freeze, shock and burn 3. staff builds will have less dps but more survivability then other 2 handed builds, skills like sweep and leap slam benefit the most from a high damage weapon with a 1.00 attack speed whereas cyclone and ground slam will benefit from faster attacking weapons (eg my staff linked below) 4. when planning a build leave 15-20 skill points spare becuause its 99.999% likely you will never reach close to level 100, a "core" build with 20 points left over is what you should aim for and should include all your keystones, any extra points after that is icing on the cake Im going to respec my templar into a large aoe staff cyclone build, from experience i know this will work very well with the staff i have, now im just deciding if i should go life based or CI/vaal pact with scion heres my new staff
