arctic armour- whats the point?

Great I think I get it now! Thanks to all. Can't see it working for me right now but will keep looking for ways to incorporate it into other chars with larger manna focus.

And I'm pretty sure Arctic Armour works after resist/armour and not before. But even if it doesn't, that converted fire damage is rendered harmless. So technically it's equivalent to having enough armour to reduce 20% of physical damage without actually having any armour in the first place. |

" I think it works before resists and armor rolls which makes armor better but vs fire dmg is crappier because you want to have 75% reduction vs fire and then aa to apply the extra - fire damage bonus. |

The dmg reduction from AA is applied AFTER dmg reductuon from resists/armor, that's why it's so effective.
Like other ppl said, you need to keep a lot of mana and/or mana regen to run it non-stop. The combo discipline aura+eldritch battery+shield nodes+a shield with a good amount of ES will provide you shitloads of mana. Aux did a build for it; I took the idea and concepts and did a tanky reave/crit dagger that was very very effective. |

It also works with cast on damage taken. There are of course better gems to use there, but if you have a green slot and nothing great to go there it works. It doesn't turn itself off, which would be the worry.
Artic armor is amazing for elemental reflect when there are multiple hits (like GMP+fireball). Now if there was just one to reduce lightning damage for lightning thorns :) |

running 5 auras now , granted 1 is clariy and 1 is discipline so its mostly for the regen , bonus added is you can attack at any speed without ever worrying about mana

My Scion is running it constantly. Its pretty good and the best part is that fire damage does jack crap to you.
