arctic armour- whats the point?

Just picked up arctic armour last night and played round with it,lvld to 5. Seems to me to be a pretty useless mana rapist. I guess the fire dmg reduction is good but I'd rather have that on an item.

What am I missing here?! Is it really so rubbish?

actually it's really good - the higher the lvl the better, but it also gets more and more difficult to sustain the mana drain.

it's not made for any build - you have to build for mana / manareg to profit from it

it can completly negate fast low phys/fire hits

It's very useful IF and only IF you can sustain it. At higher levels, the flat physical reduction is quite strong that you can just survive things without any effort to get points in armour. It also nullifies reflect from fire damage.

Throw in:
and Arctic Armour alone will nullify 20% of all physical plus that extra flat physical reduction.

Arctic Armor is awesome, coz it procs before regular armor. Regular armor is based on damage. Armor is good against smaller hits, while it's not that good against bigger hits. Arctic armor makes all hits smaller, making armor better. Kapish?

Niche gem for niche builds. Not meant for everyone.

You need to have enough mana regen... at higher levels damage like the void bears and titty bitches (never seem to remember their names) that do fire/physical damage in fast intervals are no problem anymore.

Incinerate is a fast pulse of some fire damage and the projectiles from the titty bitches also make massive damage because they fire so rapidly. AA arbsorbs almost all of it.

You can maintain AA while standing in a reasonable way.

I use it to facetank huge amounts of small enemies surrounding my EV characters.
It is pretty much the only weakness of EV and AA does a great job to mitigate this! :)

The gem being a Dex one is a bonus.

some people use it with lightning warp (cast on crit, dont waste as much mana if you warp around)

most people use it with eldritch battery

i love the gem.

only thing i HATE IS HAVING TO RECAST IT EVERY TIME YOU ENTER A NEW INSTANCE

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLS FIX THIS

had it on an Eldridge Battery Wander a while ago with over 250 mana regen per sec. I ran a lvl 15 arctic armour or so no problem.

It made physical and fire mobs fairly harmless, and was noticeable when I didn't have It on.

Firedogs and those titty chicks from lunaris did nothing with it on as an example.
