Respeccing

Here is my opinion as a new player who has just played several hours.

To be honest, I am already about to quit this game because the INABILITY to respecc is almost unacceptable. (This was similar in TL2 already although there was some odd workaround to be able to respecc).

WHY is this unacceptable?

Because, as some already pointed out, game descriptions are often unclear. This is a brand-new game where people play, having no concepts and ideas about skills and builds.

This game has the most flexible and complex p. skill system I have ever seen, now on my second day playing I am already wanting another skill tree and can only do ONE THING:

Rerolling my character and start anew.

What happens if I want to try something else in a few days? What if I find a better build on the forum tomorrow?

One problem happening to me, that, as a new player, there was confusion about the passive skill tree and the points which resulted in me wasting 2 or 3 so called "refund points". Having spent 11 pts already and 0 "refund points", there is no option now but to start anew.

I absolutely cannot stand how OTHER PEOPLE want to pressure other players into *what they think* is "the way how this game 'HAS TO' be played". People are justifying that there is very limited ways to respecc based ON THEIR OWN "idea" how the game is "supposed to be played", limiting other people's fun and ability to play the game how THEY like.

I will never understand this, I will never understand why other people would justify a rather limited respecc system and would rather "like" to see other people having to accept compromises in how they play the game (aka. playing with a skill tree which might be less 'optimal') or presume it would be 'good' telling the players to re-roll instead if their skill tree got messed up.

This is NOT a game where you have only 5 pts to work with and can get a quick idea about how you want to play in 10 minutes. There are infinite and complex combinations possible and the fact that the respeccing is so limited is in stark contrast to the otherwise good skill system.

I am speechless again how people choose to limit themselves PLUS other players, based on some weird "philosophy" they have in regards to respeccing - RATHER than making the game more enjoyable for players.

How could you mess up your build after spending only 11 points (at most by level 11)? I think that the game descriptions are quite clear, honestly. What sort of trouble could you run into by that level that you would feel the need to reroll?

As a new player, I would not follow the guides posted on the class fora to a tee. I would use them as guidelines, but form my own ideas about what I would like to do. My opinion is that cookie-cutter builds are not fun in the least, and that they detract from the experience of the game. Honestly, the classes in this game are nowhere as restrictive as the classes in most other ARPGs.

In my opinion, building a character comes down to a few very basic points: find skills and armaments you like using, invest in passive nodes that complement said skills and weapons, and boost your resistances to a respectable level. Use common sense, and have fun. In most games of this genre (with one recent exception), much of the fun is to be had as one journeys toward the endgame. The fun is in the journey, as much as the destination.

Also note that like in most other games of the genre, characters built for ranged combat will usually have an easier time than melee users.

Why so dramatic?

I really feel your wrong here. Respeccing is very generous in this game for one. So make a decent build and use your respecs and it should be at least a decent build.

NO ONE should expect to make an end game viable build the first try. If that bothers you then I don't know what to tell ya.

By the way its not other players telling you how to play. Its telling you how the game was designed. I am very confident the DEVELOPERS do not want to give more respec, definitely not easy full respecs. This is a core feature of the game. Full respecs juts don't fit into the design of this game.

They want you to spend time learning the game. This is not a game you pick up for a few weeks/month, master, and then move on. It doesn't work like that.

If you need advice on the game just ask for it. There are plenty of helpful people around here.

Another thing to point out: There is a big difference between "Farming Builds", "PVP Builds" and so on. You could easely do a very safe farming / level Build, and then just respec to an PVP build. The problem in this that, while the player doing the PVP build had a much harder time leveling his character than you had with your level build.

Also, HC would be much MUCH easier with a full respec...
