Got my new Shadow to lvl 38. Was going solid. Next thing I know, I rubberbanned back into a room full of lightning arrow archers and died.
As for Oak, fire traps and kiting works great, just takes forever. By far the hardest fight I had. My fight with Vaal was probably the easiest I've had with any of my characters. " I died at 52 (bow ele shadow) dysnc/lag. Was running through an area to get through it quickly as I didn't need to do that area, had some mobs on me but still 60% hp/es, next thing I know the screen freezes and directs me back to the login screen, could not log in right away, when I did eventually I was in default, as you can imagine it was very frustrating to randomly die to somethnig that was out of my hand. I was finding it fairly comfortable, though wasn't always the case, ofc the gear was problematic during Normal and Cruel, I had to take several health nodes to make up for the loss of hp/es. But Ruthless starts to give a decent amount of ES gear,. unfortunately the same cannot be said about normal and cruel. Trying to get the right gear combination with the right sockets was a real problem for me, I generally do not use trade often, if at all. Also this was my very first shadow character and, infact, I have never even played a bow class before. If it wasn't for the mana issues present this whole journey would of been alot of fun. But constant hassle with mana starts to grate n you. I eventually got a mana leech gem which I was able to use with a 4 way link chest, except the chest was awful and I could not warrant using it any longer, hence going back to my major mana issues. LA>WPD>LMP, those three linked alone uses an insane amount of mana. I know that using reduced mana or mana leech helps a shit load but that is an additional socket one must have linked, that alone can be tricky when using specific gear types. It was an interesting experience and I honestly believe I would not of died for quite some time unless I was being careless. Still, playing a ele bow build I felt very squishy even when trying to accumulate as much hp/es as possible, and this can infact me quite annoying since there is no real easy way to maintain a fair amount of es/hp early on, something I believe the tree could do with immensely. I was using a combo of Ice shot and LA and they are infact alot of fun, only the mana problems give headaches, I am sure later on that could be eliminated (to an extent). I still think a shadow S&B build would have alot more survivability than a ele bow build. |

Man Desbris, that sucks. Had desync death happen to me before... On the topic of squishiness, I don't think it's possible for Shadows to be entirely safe as 1st build of ladder (so many HP nodes around the ranger!). After much thought about it pre-patch, I figure it would be easier to use decoys/minions than to scrounge whatever gear available.

" aye kotao was an ice crit caster shadow. i did make it to 77 with a crit dagger shadow though. so it should be reachable no matter what build u do. Desbris, I understand your woes perfectly. Like me, you've chosen not to use Chaos innoculation, and that is where all your troubles come from.
Atleast you're a hp/es ranged shadow. I'm melee, and you can't attain enough HP in that side of the tree to be tanky enough. Your ES won't be that high either. " I personally disagree. You will never find a HP based non-IR shadow in any HC ladder, ever. Melee or ranged, especially melee. The ladder is basically a "Highest survivability builds" list. Which practically means CI/IR shadows only, prefereably ranged. I've seen you're race shadow. You used CI, LS (ranged), blood rage, and flicker. Blood rage with CI is free. Add ghost reaver and you get free leech with a ton of dmg. CI grants 50% more ES and chaos immunity. Meaning more points, that a hp shadow would have spent on life/str, to be used on other things. This also frees up life mods. Not trying to offend you and I hope you don't see it that way, but this is a very very safe build. Ice crit cold shadow, and i'm 100% sure he's using CI as well, is also as safe as it gets. It doesn't matter how smart you play. If you don't have the right build, or people to carry you, you won't progress unless you fit certain criteria as a shadow in HC: Chaos innoculation or Iron Reflexes Ranged (LS or cold) Melee (with ranged spammable strong AoE, like LS) Hp based shadow without CI/IR is not HC viable. CI and IR are 2 keystones that are too strong to ignore, and give too much for 1 passive investment. If you want to play a shadow without them, you better play default. |
