EDIT: Should MF diminishing returns be a secret?
EDIT: I edited the title and thread a bit to more clearly define my question. I wasn't really asking if diminishing returns were good or bad, rather, should we be kept in the dark about when & where they happen?
This game is all about character planning, building, min/maxing. Without the info on MF DR we have no idea how much is worthy of a good MF character and when it's useless to stack more. I guess my real question is should the magic find diminishing returns be a hidden formula? Original post: Currently PoE has an undisclosed amount of diminishing returns on magic find. With harsher diminishing returns on the way, do you feel that information on the new diminishing returns should be available? How do you feel about diminishing returns versus a hard cap? I personally don't like diminishing returns because if an item says it gives you a stat it should. Putting on an item with MF and wondering if that MF is almost completely useless isn't a good feeling and is basically lying to the player. I would much rather prefer a hard cap or at least the diminishing returns info so if I'm putting on another MF item it doesn't feel like it might or might not be an almost complete waste. Imagine if the new diminishing returns kill your MF after 100 iir 50 iiq. People who have no clue and stack 400 iir 150 iiq are gimping themselves in hopes of finding good items for no reason. It's lying to the player and IMO is not okay. Last edited by haplessGOONtv#7077 on Oct 15, 2013, 7:08:09 PM

All the new "balance" changes suck ass.
They are slowly destroying this game. It's all fun and games until someone pokes your eye out!

I also dont like hidden mechanics, i would rather have a hard cap or at least have the numbers.

Diminishing returns is fine with me, not knowing the actual numbers is not. That is indeed information that I think should be given. At least the equation so I can do the math myself.

" This. Games like this focus on min/maxing. Require actual numbers. Anarchy/Onslaught T shirt

Let's not forget we've not even played 1.0.0 yet and the devs see fuckton of more hard player data than any one of us will ever do about POE. POE has done nothing but evolved into a better game ever since alpha. I doubt 1.0.0 will be any different.
If I'd ever got a chance to make a game, it would definitively not cater to the players that want the game to change instead of themselves improving in it. Last edited by Katulobotomia#6409 on Oct 15, 2013, 2:27:13 PM

" How much res do monsters have in merciless? AR? What are the odds of finding a valuable unique? None of these you know, yet could be considered "required". |

" No they aren't required.. But actual stats on our characters need to be specified, that is a pretty poor comparison to be honest. All details about character min/max stats need to be given to us. |

I hate it.
Either have a hard cap or a soft cap (or both), undisclosed diminishing return formulas are bad. Example: Hard cap: +400% is the max Soft cap: Maps give IIR which stacks with gear. If high maps usually give +200% IIR and the hard cap for it is +400%, getting +200% IIR from gear is the soft cap for mappers. Last edited by Novalisk#3583 on Oct 15, 2013, 2:47:30 PM
