I wasn't aware of these numbers. In which case, I stand corrected. My argument was solely based on the numbers provided by the people posting in this thread. Again, I have no personal problem with female characters or the gender of characters in general. If it accurately reflects the choices of the player base, I'm all for it.

I also hear a lot of people won't play Transistor because you are forced to play as a female.
Most people just don't like virtual transvestism, they want to be immersed in their games.
I fail to see why you cant immerse yourself in a game playing a female character. Why? Well, if you cant imagine that you play as someone close to you (ur wife or girlfriend, it can be interesting to play as someone that you care about more than yourself) you really cant imagine yourself in the game either. Because the gender is the easiest "flawd" of reality to overcome in contrast to the existance of magic and walking skeletons, theese are the qualities of the game that should snap you out of the gaming experience but it don't, because you have accepted it. Try to fucking accept female characters.

What amuses me is that we'd see many posts asking for female characters if there were none in the game. When someone asks for another male character in a gender-locked game, the "sexism" insinuations and outright accusations get carted out by the Political Correctness Police.
Troll or not, I'm with the OP in not wishing to play as female characters. Back when I was single and deeply into nerd fantasy, I would play female characters whenever possible (using the very common reasoning that "if I was going to be staring at someone's ass, I'd rather it be female!"). One day I changed my mind and stopped playing female characters. It was around the time I started interacting with actual real females, lol.
My mindset switched from a "male sex fantasy" in playing an armored, beautiful (not that any females in PoE are beautiful, to which I applaud GGG for taking a realistic stance upon) female that "kicks ass"!
Now I play a dude.
Take my thoughts for what you will.
Did you actually post this?

There are a lot of female gamers online who generally hide their gender because of how females are treated. This makes it seem like males are the vast majority when they actually aren't. It is more even than you think, and 4/3 male/female characters is probably a pretty accurate breakdown.
Well, people have posted various links to statistical analysis in regards to this issue and it seems that only 25% of the player base in MMOs or RPGs play female characters. So who to believe?
statistics from the ladders:
http://poestatistics.com/standard/
ranger 17.85% + witch 28.21%
46.06% of top 15000 characters in standard are female
http://poestatistics.com/hardcore/
ranger 16.38% + witch 19.91%
36.29% of HC ladder is female
http://poestatistics.com/anarchy/
ranger 11.73% + witch 32.24%
43.97% of anarchy ladder is female
http://poestatistics.com/onslaught/
ranger 12.45% + witch 29.9%
42.35% of onslaught ladder is female
Those stats sound pretty correct for a 4/2 split in gender.
Especially since the witch and ranger a pretty popular classes.

It doesn't really matter. If we can assume that 25% of the player base plays female characters, it makes no sense to have 43% female characters in the game. It is disproportionate and does not reflect the choices made by the players, irrespective of their gender.
Let me reiterate what I said earlier, to me personally the character's gender doesn't matter. I play most of my races as Ranger, purely based on the gameplay and only recently switched to Templar. However, if we are going to argue the statistical side of it, the facts actually matter, not our personal preferences or even just our opinion.
Even if we assume 25% of people play female characters (why even assume that in the first place?), the amount of female characters to male characters doesn't accurately represent the player's gender preference. There are people who choose gameplay over gender and vice versa. If my favorite class was duelist, I would play duelist, even though I prefer female characters. In that case, IF I could be a female duelist, I would, but I'd rather be a male duelist than a female other-class. There aren't any accurate statistics available to us that show what gender the players prefer overall, but the amount of female characters to male characters is pretty close to what studies have shown is the amount of female gamers to male gamers, so it seems pretty fair to me.

those numbers are a reflect of PEO gameplay. When Standard started it was known that ranger (ranged) was teh easiest way to play (marauder for path of life nods).
Witches became popular later on because CI is the most OP and safe now.
