What is "Legacy"?
The real disappointment isn't the migration, or the loss of items for me; they can be easily replaced. It is the wasted time.
I just spent 30+ levels testing a concept that didn't work out. It used conduit with minions and the charges don't work or do anything. Then I started a new "experimental" test character and spent 34 levels getting him just right. He's not ready to post in "build of the week" because he's not yet into the higher levels but he's getting close to where I might put him forth as a cool idea that "works"; but now he won't qualify unless I start over from scratch. That means going slow and getting the gems I need for the skills I want to play with. That means gathering up the gear to give him resists early on all over again. That means 20 levels of slowly grinding to try and stay in hard core as a father and bread winner . . . it's just a hassle, and not exactly fun. Even worse the announced changes are set to make things more difficult for me. I may have to give up on trying to make a character who can survive in hard core even with the need to rush away mid battle to take care of my wife and son. That is sad since my defensive builds were getting quite good at lasting a few moments without me, but with these resistance penalties things are going to become much more difficult. I fear that GGG's is balancing things around college kids without lives, even though a lot of us old D2 fanatics are in our mid thirties now and have other responsibilities. On the plus side I'm waiting to see what new toys they give me to go with the beating I'm about to receive. Hopefully they will add in a lot of good elemental resistance keystones and passives right along the main paths so that I don't have to totally redesign my build. Also maybe they'll throw in some decent defensive toys that will actually help me out. I just have to wait and see what happens. It could be really bad, or it could be alright. We simply don't have enough data yet to know for sure what they intend. Last edited by JohnChance#7367 on Oct 7, 2012, 6:39:04 PM

@JohnChance: As far as having to leave at any given second goes, you can press alt+F4 on your keyboard to immediately close PoE. Your character seems to leave the server instantly...some might consider this cheating, however, the game is not built around having to get up and leave like that (no pause function), so I'd say go for it. It'll set you back in progress a bit (unless you were close to a waypoint), but it's better than setting back an entire character. ;)

I really don't think you can. I don't see it as an option when I make a new character.
And I make new characters a lot. :) If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

Have to agree with Mr_Cee, at least during the last 1-week-race it was possible to create legacy chars. (Did so accidentaly, when I created several Lvl-1 mule chars to get my stuff from HC to default ;) )

People complaining about "wasted time" confuse me. They play this knowing there is going to be a complete wipe. They play this game as a beta tester and because it is a good diversion.
There have been numerous item changes and now this resist change, they really need a fresh slate to test the effects of these changes. A lot of current players are wearing various pre-patch items (myself included) and by using them you do not get an accurate representation of the game, and so aren't really testing it properly. All that said, this isn't a complete wipe, you will still have those characters and if you are QQ'ing about that then the OB complete wipe is going to blow your mind. |

" Well, bugger me. Guess I should have checked more recently. I shall eat my words, sir, and see you...in Legacy. If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

" and by 'hurt', you actually mean 'nerf', right? :) If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.
