Flipping is amazingly profitable in POE
" You have tunnel-vision when it comes to the power of 'flipping' it seems. I for one have made 100s of exalts in a relatively short amount of time... and guess what, I can multitask!!! I can still do trades while playing the game. Just check my trade history... oh, and it's not insignificant when my 'purchasing power' kicks in at what we call in economics 'opportunity factor'. Case in point: I recently bought a Kaom's Heart for 22 x exalts from a neophyte; I sold that same Kaom's Heart within 2 hours (while still mapping) for 35 x exalts. Now, take other factors into consideration as far as the deviation of 'value' for various commodities goes from a pattern of higher to lower--or lower to higher--'value' over time, there is a given 'range' of 'normative value' that doesn't deviate from its 'origin value' too much. However, there are times it breaks the ceiling if the price goes to a new all-time high--or ground if the price falls. With these 'breaks' comes a new established 'normative value within a given range'. This allows those who amassed enough of said item/commodity to cash in for massive profits; however, considering that as time goes on, over 85% or more items, gears, etc lose an average of 25-50% of their value with each 'break', then you actually have even more than just 1, or 2, or 5 exalts from what you have sold. Here's why... if those 85% of other commodities lost 50% of their value, for example, then a 10% profit is actually going to be a 15% profit. However, doing other things like investing profits into raw currencies that are or weren't currently in demand now reached a demand that can not be met with the current supply. Case in point: I took my initial 10% profit (which would easily be over 10 x exalts given the number of times I've done it), and I invested it into Divine orbs. Divine orbs now are over 100% (about 150% more in value if sold to the right people). Now that 10% profit vs the purchasing power of 85% or more of other commodities would be 15%; however, with the investment in conjunction with the deviation in value to subordinate orbs to certain higher orbs means that I actually now have a 25-30% profit. So seeing even 1 x exalt as being nothing is ridiculous, but say I did quick sales via sheer volume sales and made small profits between 10-15%, but using my strategy means I would have greater odds of getting good deals because I am not low-balling too much, but I still make more profit than someone who makes double (if you kept track of all the math at this point). 1 x exalt invested into 5 x divines x 10 x quick sales = 50 x divines divided by 2 with current market value (on standard atm; however, I also play Anarchy and Onslaught, but I am using standard prices as an example) means that I get 25 x exalts which would have only been 5 x exalts, so now my purchasing power goes up to 500% with just having sheer volume sales of 10-15% on average. It's like I bought a 6L Taryn's Shiver Staff for 2 x exalts given the current purchasing power (if you understand what I have said so far, this should make sense). Now say I do this on a much grander scale, then I can start to monopolize currencies--to an extent; I can at least do it to a point where I keep a certain amount of stability in the market to retain my purchasing power. Eh, there's a whole lot more that goes into what I do, but, YES, I can play the game and do this at the same time... so stop saying it can't be done. The OCULAR proof is there... enough said. ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐ Last edited by Azarius#0884 on Sep 18, 2013, 6:21:38 PM

Speaking of ocular, could you separate your reply into paragraphs ?

" Edit: Weird, I checked and it has the paragraphs in my post when I checked to edit it, but it's not showing up when it's submitted... Edit: Hmmm, I guess it doesn't let me indent the paragraphs, but at least now they are spaced out. ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐ Last edited by Azarius#0884 on Sep 18, 2013, 6:15:07 PM

And then what do you do with all this wealth - keep buying and flipping. Seems kinda pointless really unless your trying to craft high end gear which in turn will cost 50x the amount out into it.
This is a video game not Wall Street. Now if you were a millionaire in RL I'd be impressed. But hey whatever is fun for you , keep on truckin' |

" Actually, I've already sold many of the #1 rare items on standard atm. Yes, that's the whole point, and it does pay off. I was very lucky with a Saint Armor I had crafted, and I used less than 20 exalts to make it. I sold it later on for a Kaoms Heart + 40 x exalts. That's massive profits ^^ In real life I am not a millionaire (yet); however, I have about $350,000.00 in my bank account at the moment. I am trying to start up a business, so I hope eventually I can become one. Best of luck to you mate. Oh, and I know... why only a Divine Supporter pack? I am a penny pincher in real life just as I am in game, and I need to be careful with my money. The other reason is because I didn't like the Exalted glow as much as the Divine glow--it matches well with more attack skills (Ice and Lightning types). ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐ Last edited by Azarius#0884 on Sep 18, 2013, 6:26:47 PM

"without farming"? Not true. You're just farming the trade chat. More efficient but how boring is that.

" If you read carefully, I said I still do maps (that means I farm...). I also do weekly giveaways in the form of contests in game (YES, I have asked various people from GGG if I can, and they said it doesn't violate the ToU). I don't see many other people in my position that are as generous. The green-eyed monster is here, watch out!!! ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐ Last edited by Azarius#0884 on Sep 18, 2013, 6:30:15 PM

" that doesn't invalidate what he said though as you my friend are the exception to the rule :D |

I am often too impatient for trade these days and would much rather sell for cheaper than spend 2 hours on trade and use my time to farm with MF that I saved. It works both ways, some people like to trade and some people like to farm. I certainly flipped a lot myself early open beta, but I also paid 3ex for a cheetus apex (levelling my first character was like driving a bus over an old rickety rope bridge, never made it to the other side, so I was excited having never seen it before) just to get one the next day for 2 chaos. With fluctuating prices, it is often harder to determine what is cheap and what is not, so if you see a good deal, get on it! My best flip was probably a ring I bought for an exalt and then sold to willywonka for 6exalt (his prismatic dual ele hit totem build one).

" Ah, I wasn't sure if he was directing his retort at me or if he was speaking in general. On a side note: each individual is going to enjoy doing what they enjoy doing; if this gives me entrainment, then why not do it? I'm not going to look down on anyone who doesn't do the same thing as me, because if everyone was the same... that would be so boring. I like variety in life, but sometimes 'variety' leads to contention in the form of 'thought(s)'. As William Shakespeare once wrote: "There's nothing good or bad, but thinking makes it so" (Hamlet: Act 2; Scene 2). ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐ Last edited by Azarius#0884 on Sep 18, 2013, 6:41:08 PM
