Indeed they are different! However base damage on a marauder would actually be 2-7, your 30 strength is giving 15% more physical damage, which is why it's showing up as 2-8 because 7*1.15=8.05.


30 strength is worth 6% damage, not 15%.

The base is 2-8, you can easily test it by simply equipping the starting weapon (which has a range of 5-8 damage) and you'll see that your damage only increases to 5-8 instead of 5-9 (if having 7 max damage at a base would go up to 8 from strength, having 8 base damage on a weapon would go to 9, which isn't the case).

In order to break the mold a bit, I've been playing with an unarmed witch with Dominating Blow and minion passives.

The character is fairly interesting already. Minion Instability gives me a better-Infernal-Blow-than-Infernal-Blow every time I turn an enemy, and Dominating Blow + Faster Attacks + Culling Strike does a horrendous amount of damage even with no damage investment with 15+ minions.

Leveling DB seems silly since the cost gets too high, and skill effect duration passives seem pretty important to make up for this. Maybe late-late game I can handle the cost, but at the base of 23 it's already quite high.

I'll have a more thorough write-up when I get her to maps (she's sitting in a1 merciless right now), but I'm past the burn-in period and the build seems solid.
You have no idea how happy it makes me to hear someone's having fun and being effective with Dominating Blow. I love that skill and pushed for the minion limit to be removed (not that I had to push hard) because it was almost universally hated.
You'll notice he kept it at level 1. Most people when trying it out for the first time will level it, and find themselves unable to support the mana cost. I think the skill would see more use if something was done about that, maybe a flat mana cost with smaller bonus for levelling.
As it is you have to try the skill out once and fail with it, or only use it for the killing blow on the occasional rare mob, before you can attempt to make more proliferant use of it the second time around.

There's nothing really wrong with the skill other than that you have to know all about it in advance to be able to build around it.

I am bumping this thread, since it hasn't been updated for a few patches.

Can anyone tell me what skills curently works with unarmed, and maybe link me to a few interesting unarmed builds?

The skills that work with unarmed are:
- Frenzy
- Elemental Hit
- Dominating Blow
- Infernal Blow

The builds discussed in this thread are still valid afaik.

They should add: Ground Slam and Leap Slam to this mix... maybe only when you choose some keystone

Flicker Strike and Glacial Hammer would make some sense too... after all a fist is as blunt as a hammer.
you can't crit with your fists anyways so a crit build is pointless for unarmed facebreaker...

oh and cyclone works with facebreaker too.
