Given that there's no "money system" in PoE, how do we know prices of items..?
Hey guys,
Just started playing, I want to sell some of my items but 1. There's no marketplace 2. There's no "money system". I know that those orbs or fragments are used as currency, but to me its just so peculiar. I can't sell my items and even if I do, I surely know that I will be ripped off. Thanks guys |

Simple - play alot more and you'll become aware of what goes for what.

Thats the nature of Wraeclast, a barter economy that is crude, like the rest of the "civilization" there.
People will usually help with price checks if you want to sell stuff, and once you play a while youll get a feel for how much things are worth. There are accepted exchange rates between orbs loosely based off of the vendor rates. Supposedly, theyre going to make trading easier by introducing a web interface, but there will never be an "auction house". |

Definitely keep an eye on trade chat, it helps a ton in learning what sells for what. Another good rule of thumb to avoid being ripped off is not to get price checks from people who want to buy from you, get them from people who don't want the item itself.

A few tips:
1) Look at trade chat and if they don't say a price of a certain item, see what that is going for and maybe as why (and say that you are new, they'll more than likely help out) 2) Have a look at the trade section for the league you are in on the forums. It can be found under the index tab when hovering over forum at the top. People will more than likely put the prices that they want to buy an item for. 3) Use the global chat, in game, to ask for a price check on an item. (If you're not sure on how to link an item, just ask there too). 4) Obviously, like you said, there is no real 'money'. But, people will pay what they each think an item is worth. But good low level gear will often go for a few chaos orbs as it is used for leveling. High level gear will go for a lot more if it's at the top standard. 5) Take a look at http://exilestats.com/ex/ , this is the general ratios for the currency that people use to sell items. It's a little out-dated but can give you a rough idea. But apart from that, just keep yourself aware with the trade channels. And if at any point you think you are being wronged, don't be afraid to ask someone! You can even ask me if you like, PM on here or in game (@Danny_Whemplar). Have fun my friend! - Danny PS. sorry if I posted this twice, I had to go pee (I hope someone gets that reference!) IGN: SelocYnnad

Watch out for people trying to lowball you on decent items. I personally just ignore them, or I've been known to be rude to people lowballing if they are persistent. I act the same way when people overprice stuff. I'm not gonna pay 50% more than market for an item just because its yours.
Prices on rare rings/amulets are sorta tricky. If I know they're pretty good, but not godly I might ask 3 GCP for such rings/amulets. Something like this might be worth 1-2GCP. If that had cast speed, or good spell dmg%, it would be worth a lot more. Pretty nice phys dmg amulet, has a little bit of everything you might want on it. 3-4gcp for something like that. If it had higher HP mod (70+) it would be worth a few GCP more, maybe an exalt. Anarchy prices. If your rings/amulets are worse, either vendor or sell for 1-2 chaos if you can get it. You have to sorta look at it from which builds a specific ring/amulet might be good for then market the item for that build. For example, if I wanted to sell that amulet I'd say WTS nice facebreaker ammy, or etc. That works better than posting a wall of rings + amulets that most people don't even care to look through. " Yeah, had a few pretty nice ones that I've been trying to get a price check on for a while now, both in game and on the price check forums(which were a good idea but no one replies there to anything, so in practice they seem almost useless). Any ideas? Seems like they would be especially nice for a lightning strike build. |

" Common way new players get ripped off hard, is someone posts an item in trade and they don't know what they got to barter with. The guy selling asks the new player to post what orbs they got. Hypothetically that noob is one of the luckiest people in the world and happened to find an exalted orb before level 20. Noob includes exalted orb in the list of orbs they got. The guy selling asks for exalted orb for said item. Noob gets freaking owned hard in a trade for some low-tier leveling unique. Anyway that is how I made my first exalted orb. That guy got ripped hard for a Geofri's Baptism 2h mace. If someone is that stupid lucky to find an exalt in their first few hrs of playing, then I don't feel bad at all about ripping them off.
