Lag Issues? Teleporting

A few days ago I returned to playing POE after taking a long break. There wasn't much of an issue at that point but in the past two days the problem has started to become unbearable; probably because of game progression. I'm being teleported around, constantly. Into mobs, into random empty spaces even when I'm stationary for long periods of time.

It doesn't feel like lag or desync. I notice that the world around me never freezes. Nor do I notice a sudden death screen. Instead I'm suddenly somewhere I shouldn't be, watching my health being drained while I scream in frustration. In my eyes this is doubtlessly not a problem at my end of the connection, I'm playing in a party and it's happening constantly to them as well. They're not just separate instances either, usually this happens to both of us at the same time.

I'd really appreciate some help on this.

Sounds like desync to me. You can type the /oos command to re-sync yourself and see if when you're about to die, you're in the middle of a pack of something. This is most common with movement based abilities (cyclone?)
I've seen enough desync to know when it happens. I'm stood stationary and suddenly my character is on the other side of the room? And having it happen to two people at the same moment?

the definition of desync is your character on the server being in a different location than your client thinks. When you "snap back" to the server location, it is just the server synchronizing you to its location. If you had typed /oos, you would have been put in the same place, sooner.

That is what desync is. A lot of people have different symptoms or definitions for desync (most of which are actually lag), but in this case... teleporting around randomly is a definite sign of desync. Being killed when you're standing all by yourself is also another symptom of desync, and if you type /oos then, you'd see yourself teleported into the middle of a pack of mobs.
I too am having this happen to me. It only seems to be recently, after the last patch.
It's very frustrating to suddenly be somewhere else, and dead. I'd even go so far as to say it's enough to make me take a break from PoE until it's resolved.
I have been noticing this too. And I'm pretty sure it is a desync, but not of a lag type. I think it is a bug. One where what the client sends a message to the server and the message is different between what the client tells itself and what it tells the server. so the bug could be either related to the client sending the wrong message to the server, or the server is interpreting the message correctly.
I have similar issues, although I never died while being alone. I have a steady 90-100 FPS and 40-50 ms ping. But when i engage a group of mobs in melee with my marauder, 50% of the time, mobs move without my client noticing. A couple of seconds later, I'm either dead or lucky enough to find a mob that is in sync and get a life leach hit in. Fair enough, I can always use /oos to sync back in, but spamming that command is hardly what i'd consider playing the game. I also get that bugs will be present with any new game, and doubly so considering I get this game for free. But that fact is that the syncing issues are making the game unplayable as a melee char unless you go hardcore def build. My build is sentered around mobility and life steal. Kinda glass cannon, but it's a fun spec and I like playing it. Just too bad I can't at the moment :(

On a side note though: Thank you for an AWESOME game !!! :D:D

Most of the time these problems are related to usage of specific skills, or how you are playing the game.

Usage of melee movement skills is a HUGE cause for this... like Cyclone or Flicker Strike. They cause your character to move somewhere else (where it isn't necessarily always calculated correctly). So I would avoid using those types of skills if possible in normal combat.

Another thing that often causes this is running "Through" monsters, or too close to walls or rocks or other obstacles which can clip your character. The detection code on the client and server for your character movement aren't always the same so sometimes your client sees you as narrowly avoiding hitting something, but the server doesn't so you get "stuck" or "hung up" on that object and don't ACTUALLY move past it.

For that reason, I give everything I run through a wide berth and avoid running "through" packs of monsters. I let them come to me most of the time. That is how I almost completely avoid desync (some desync is unavoidable, and really all characters are constantly in desync.. the problem is the severity of it).

Good luck.
Thx for the reply.

It doesn't fix my problem though. It saddens me that the skills i need for my build are the same skills that cause me my problems, but it's how it is. I'll just put my marauder on hold until they make some fixes to melee movement and targeting. I'm no stranger to desync... Played a Zealadin in D2 and had sync issues there as well. But they were not as frequent and far from as deadly; they were managable. Pretty sure there will be fixes for this though :)
A year later and another major update, this glitch is worse that ever. You would think that by now, GGG would stop looking to add more content and start looking to correct the on-going issues of this glitch, desync issue or whatever it is. It's now made the game virtually impossible to level up in Merciless when the glitch happens. I can accept the fact you will die but I want it to be by my hand or inability of my build to survive, not by glitch-porting to some room you haven't even been in yet and being killed instantly by the mob you are now surrounded by.
