I've heard that armor doesn't reduce damage for energy shield, but then I read a damage formula where damage is reduced before being applied to shield, then to hp. Does anyone know which one it is?

Energy shield is a rechargeable extension of HP. Armor is a mechanic that reduces the amount of damage taken.
So say a mob hits you for 100 damage and you have 300 hp and 100 energy shield. You will lose all of your shield and 0 of your hp. Now say if you picked up Iron Reflex and doubled your armor to where the mob hits you for only 50 damage (actual numbers won't work like that, just for this example). Now when you get hit, you would only lose 50 of your shield and still have 50 leftover. Think of energy shield like a secondary hp bar. So energy shield + hp - 1 = maximum hit you can take at once. |

" This has some element of truth, but perhaps misses an important element of ES - that it doesn't benefit from flasks or any leech support. So a 500ES does act like a substitute for life for the first 500pts of damage, but in logner or tougher fights you wont be able to replenish ES without runnnig away and simply waiting for it to refill. This reduces its usefulness in my opinion. Not to say it doesn't have its place, but it's not quite 1:1 with life for general utility. Petrov. |
