Can't differentiate Magic/Rare items in inventory at a glance

Firstly, let me just mention that I posted a few weeks ago frustrated with the clunky character movement and decided to stop playing because I got the impression that GGG weren't particularly concerned about it, but the last patch seems to have tightened up character movement responsiveness a lot (although it still needs some improvement) and I'm now back into PoE in a serious way.

The reason for this thread is that I can't understand why I need to mouse over every item in my inventory to see whether they're magic or rare items.

I propose that the background color of an item should show its quality and the edge of its container should be coloured red if the item is unusable.

To me this seems like a very basic convenience that would remove the completely unnecessary tedium of scrolling over every item in my stash to differentiate the rares.

Although I'm surprised something like this hasn't been implemented yet, I'll be even more surprised if GGG have no plans to do so.

I thought the same thing. It would be nice to see rarity type and if and item is already identifiert. In addition it would be cool to see if an item has a quality>0.
+1 to this, I too am a little annoyed that I have to mouse over all my stuff to see what is rare

Yes, if we could see rarity type and identification status at a glance it would make tasks like upgrading a ton of rings and amulets vastly less tedious and time consuming.

Anyone know if GGG have discussed this at any point?

It feels kind of ridiculous having 7 tabs full of items that I have to individually mouseover to find out which are rare and which are magic, so it'd be nice to know if this considered an issue or not.

I am all for being able to easily identify which items are rare and which ones are magic. Also, having a way to see which ones are quality at a glance would be great as well.
+1 to this idea. It is hard to tell in an inventory full of items which ones are what.

D3 solved this by having different rarities have different backgrounds in the inventory. A nice, simple UI fix. Not sure how simple it'd be to implement, though.

Blue item had blue background. White had a clear background but white outline I think.
Yellow had yellow... and so on. Could work in PoE.
