The Zeitgeist Movement

I'm actually studying Philosophy right now. And from my sheet which explains how to differentiate religious, pseudo-scientific and scientific speech, your speech is pseudo-scientific. Since it's based on a Dogma and false science. Which is ridiculously near the religious speech. The basic premice is simple. The world sucks? join my movement.

Is that a good argument for you?
Greetings mortal, are you ready to die?

Lucask,

The problem with all of this is simple. The entire movement is based on a flawed premise. That being:

"People, are more or less, logical."

People aren't logical. this movement of yours is nothing more then fantasy.

Acctually the movement is not based on this premisse. It´s, in fact, showing the verry opposite of that: we aren´t BEING logical in our aproach with our life on earth.
And i have to respectfully disagree with you when you say "people aren´t logical", for when you put it that way makes it seem like humans are in a petryfied state of being, as in: people are emotional; people are logical; people are faithless. When you say people aren´t logical, youre wrong, cause in manny aproaches of life we are. But, of course, we are not only logical. We also are emotional and have manny other characteristics of behavior in us.
The fact is we are not behaving logically in the present establishment and this will (and is allreaddy hapening) bring some verry sad consequences.

You see, mate, the problem is people are being too stucked minded. We aproach every idea of change using the reference of our current social/cultural state. Almost everything (at least technology wise) we have today was labled as fantasy/impossible in the past.
And to say this movement is nothing more then fantasy...well, imho, to say that the present social/cultural/economic system is sustainable is a "fantasy".
In fact, this statement of yours has no argument basis. If it does, please show me why it cant be done. Or what is wrong about the ideas you saw.

I'll first respond to your other post, (the long stream of quotes of people saying that something can't be done, and it has been done) Instead, I will say this. All of those quotes mean nothing.

Your second response missed my original point entirely. This "movement" of yours is a long series of complaints against modern society. For example. that a select few control the ebb and flow of fossil fuels. The argument then goes on to show how that fact is obviously wrong. Why should a few people control so much? Shouldn't ALL of our resources be shared equally?

I agree that this a good way to think (that we should all share the resources of this world) However, that mentality will never exist in reality. Why? Because (going back to my previous point) People aren't logical. We aren't designed/made to be logical. Sure, with enough attention we can become trained in a particular science or philosophy and apply stringent logical practices to our actions. However our day to day thoughts center around 2 things.

1. How am I doing?
2. How could I be better?

Notice the double use of "I" in those statements. The "I" is what our minds are programmed around, to serve and to protect. Therefore, no society will ever flourish that demands of man that he share his kill/bread/oil will EVERY other man, regardless of whether or not that person actually HELPED in acquiring the kill/bread/oil.

This movement, just like communism, is good in theory. It's good to talk about at dinner parties. It isn't something that is going to happen, it isn't something to get worked up about. For something like you suggest to actually happen, would require the foundations of all modern societies to be overturned. In short, to get this movement off the ground, the world has to end.

Was the quintuple post really necessary? You're just clogging up the thread with something that could have been conveyed in one.

And at this point, he has put too much effort into his posts to be a troll. So he'd either have to be an extremely bad troll or not a troll at all.
Beleive it or not Jacque Fresco is not the first person to propose a utopian society.

The thing that gets me about the venus project is the whole "let a giant computer make all the decisions"
kind of makes me lol

I give them points for trying.
Ya the posts may have been a little excessive.
