Tips for Act II boss?
I beat him on first try with about 20% lightning resist and 700hp on normal (quite low hp if I got hit by the lightning). Running a tight counter clockwise circle around him avoided the lightning attack. Note your circle is not tight enough if you are just holding the mouse button down. That only updates every 200ms. You really need to keep clicking in a much tighter circle. His ice attack always went counter clockwise for me (probably because I would be running that way when it started) if it didn't land close enough I would run clockwise past it and start wailing on him till it ended and begin circling. Whenever he did the rock fall move I just wailed on him, only one of the rocks hit me and the mass majority seem to be placed to hit ranged characters. Lastly I never attacked while he was switching attack types so I didn't get hit by the melee explosion. Kill the adds, they replenish your potions and remove a shit ton of damage from the situation. An instant recover potion and a potion with remove chill is extremely useful in tight spots.
Warlords mark with its 100% increase flask charges kept my potions full the entire time. The farther away you are the less it has to spin to hit you with the lightning attack. Last edited by Retanaru#5568 on Jul 29, 2012, 5:07:35 PM

" That's the thing: He is quite doable as ranged character, but as melee, he's a major pita. Did him first on my witch on normal. No problems, even without Lightning Resists. With my Shadow (Evade tank: 46% to Evade, 24% to Dodge, 20% Dodge Spells, 47% Block) on almost maxed Lightning resist (69% iirc), The laser still managed to one-hit kill me twice (perhaps a bug, since I had the 'Shocked' Debuff twice on my corpse). His Melee slam did me in about 10 times(!). Apparently, it's not dodgeable, not avoidable, not blockable. And it hits for more than 370 HP. Further, he summoned ranged adds in places where I could not reach them (in the black abysses in the corners). They do Chaos damage *sigh*. Long story short: He feels a lot like Duriel: Pack up on TP scrolls, attrition him down. And my experiment with a tank... he feels like a really soggy paper tissue in that fight. 12/12/12 - the day Germany decided boys are not quite human.

I found the fight confusing. I wasn't able to tell what was happening very well and I kept getting one-shot while I was trying to figure out what was going on.
I finally beat him by summoning an army of skeletons and zombies to handle the adds and doing most of my damage in the adds phase. I spent the rest of the time on the move to avoid lazers, ice, and cave-ins. |

To me this kind of fight isn't fun, and I'm not sure why they made this type of boss. What's fun about a boss where you have to spend most of your time running around? That's not skill, or challenging, it's just a PITA. Feels too much like elites in D3 inferno to me. Very sad to see part of this game move in that direction.

Just fought him for the first time in Cruel (I was already in Cruel before the patch that added him, so never saw him on Normal). Died once (to his melee bash thing), so it wasn't too bad. I did have a couple of Topaz rings on, so I had 74% lightning resist. I'm playing a dagger/shield Shadow.
Fight was fun. Have to use a bit of strategy, and can't just stand there and wail on him, which is good. Keep moving and jump in to attack when you can. I would shield charge in, hit him with a few Viper Strikes, and then charge out again. Good fight :) |

Found him rather easy on normal and cruel as a DW duelist. No deaths so far. Run in and hit him, if he lifts one of his arms either know what that arm does and act accordingly, or just run in circles anyway until you know what it does. If he summons mobs, ice or stones just keep hitting. Dodge Fire, lightning keep running. Never really leave melee range, unless you have to take care of some cluster of constructs.

I'm looking for tips on Merciless here.
My lvl 62 Ranger with 1.3k HP, 51% damage reduction (at the time) with 2.1k DPS at best (spamming 3.3 Burning Arrows per second). The laser would either bring me down to 5-10% health OR completely 1shot me as I step out of the portal. And no, not 2 or 3 lasers, the first laser. I have 63% lightning resist. Other than spamming Poison Arrow (gave up on Burning Arrow unless he was spamming fireball/constructs), all it was running around trying to do dodge these 3 things: 1. the ice spread 2. his 3 lasers 3. the damn cave ins It took me 9 tries (8 deaths) to clear him on Merciless. It took me 2 tries (1 death) to clear him on Ruthless. Big difference. Any tips to prevent myself from being roflstomped by this guy? " I stood there and beat on him with an axe. When I get hit by one of the big lightning beams I circle around him until he is done, then beat on him some more. Killed at level 53 in Merciless. This was with nearly 3000 hp. Other difficulties were the same, stand there and spam cleave/infernal blow, move when he shoots lightning beam, then hit him some more. Pretty simple. I didn't feel any damage from any of his attacks except the lightning beam thing. I also regen about 150 per second, but that seems fairly insignificant, I also only had like 2.5k armor, but max resist. Last edited by thepmrc#0256 on Aug 6, 2012, 4:01:04 PM

Yeah he was a pain in the ass^^
Actually I had to tactics on killing him. I could run circles and beat him if in the right situation. But this takes forever... The other option is go in, stack 4 Viperstacks on him and bash him until your death and do this until he is death... The first method is without dying, the second method is if you want to beat him fast^^. You should level up to avoid a death-penalty. It's fun to avoid him with ranged chars, but for melees it is often a pain, since you sometimes can't even target the adds, since they are standing right inside him. |
