Is greater multi projectiles better then lesser?

Just started a Witch; going to try Ice.
My Witch is currently level 12. I see most of the builds here go up the "left" and "right" side of the tree. For new Witches, I wonder, which of these skills would people recommend taking first? |

" Left. The mana regen and energy shield bonuses on the right are very minor in the beginning when your gear is just a hodgepodge of random stuff youve found and you're not running Clarity aura. |

I'm at lvl 50, and must chose betwen the shield pasives and more critical chance, the shield pasives are really relevant? is enought bonus to make a difference in the survavility?

Currently level 30, no extra crit dmg pasives yet.
I wanted to ask, my freezing pulse +lesser seems better then ice spear+lesser. The ice spear is rather slow in speed and cast speed aswell(i will add cast speed gem as soon as i get socket setup) is this happening because i have close to no extra crit dmg at all? In comparison to the cast speed and damage of freezing pulse right now, ice spear only advantage is probably more crits and the fact that its long range, do you people stick with this slow casting or maximize it somehow? how? In this build what is the advantage of running CI. Are you using Blood Rage or some other type of skill/spell that is bringing chaos damage or just using it solely for the higher energy shield?
