This change was pretty funny because it did nothing to address either side of the argument.
Pub games remain unchanged - people will still hover over loot and try to take it.
The change only affects a party of friends who would play by loot to name - now there is virtually no way to get all the items that were on your timer (especially when mobs die off screen).
All in all this change only affects the game negatively. Anyone who wants to play cutthroat style and take what they want can still do that - players who like playing with their friends and enjoy diving their now have a harder time doing this.
Actually, this should hopefully help remove some of the entitlement issues. MY loot of example, because it has MY name on it. Well, now it doesn't.

Unfortunately I don't think it actually accomplishes that at all. If they see the item allocated to them they will still feel entitled to it. This patch literally did nothing but make it harder for friendly parties to follow 'loot to name' rules. Remove the timers with the names (Pure FFA) and you would solve the entitlement problem.

I agree that this entitlement issue might settle down. The problem is that many people (way more than you might think) enjoy playing this game in private groups - these people also don't want to participate in a loot dash and divide their loot according to names. The fact that a group option isn't just implemented is so strange to me. Not everyone wants to play the same way, and not everyone should have to. There is no wrong way to play - free for all or divided loot, but it just seems like the developers want to punish people for wanting to play with their friends in a carefree, no-loot-grabbing environment. Oh well.

It seems to me that GGG needs to add some sort of loot monkey monster that steals loot off the ground in Solo games... gotta get that loot tension in solo play too, make it more engaging... I don't know about you guys, but I think that would make the game a lot more fun!

If something could be done to prevent the screen clutter that comes with more people in a party I would be an advocate of pure FFA looting, but as long as the entire screen is nothing but loot clutter in every combat situation I will be letting the devs know that the current system is broken.
Pro-tip: In the game go to >Options>UI>Always Highlight: UNCHECK
I just solved your problem. How blown is your mind right now?

I am tired of the compromising. go big or go home ggg.
I mean make it an option or make hc pure ffa and sc pure personal loot
The game does not adapt to you, you adapt to it.

Decent changes overall, but I'd still prefer instanced loot. For now they need to increase the pickup range so it's not possible for one person to block you from getting "your" loot.
