How does it slow down?

All yellows always get picked up by the people who have the timers.

Blue items with timers are never 'queued' for.

Currency always gets picked up.

There is no plausible reason why anyone would be waiting for timers to end if it's not likely that the timer ends before the timer owner can react. If there is one I'm not aware of it, could you elaborate what are the item kinds that people don't pick up that others will?

If it was simply an option then people would only be using it if they WANTED to play at that pace.

It would have no place in FFA, even the current timers don't even have a place in FFA, but are merely there to compensate for lag that people suffer and reaction/travel time needed. If someone forgot to pick up an item or didn't see an item due to not paying attention, someone would have to wait an extremely long time to pick it up.

GGG wants people to pay attention with the risk of losing out on loot if you don't, not? Increasing the timers, would make it require no effort whatsoever to "always" get your loot and can not be considered FFA in the least.

Making it an option would solve it, but I'm against adding more loot-options to appease every type of player, which will split up the playerbase even more than it already is. Removing names from loot, while still assigning it to a random player, would be a good fix in my opinion, plus minimizing the pathing and player collision issues that people have.

One of the biggest problems with this is that you can lose loots even if you are paying attention due to various quirks in the loot pickup system like:

1) You click on item but your character does not even start moving towards it.
2) You click an item and your character moves halfway.
3) You click an item and your character moves all the way but doesn't bother to pick it up.
4) You click an item while standing on top of it but your character doesn't feel like picking it up.

Fix all of the above (one click = works always) and many people would have a lot less to complain about the system. I'd even wager than the current system might be ok for most of the players if you fix all of the above.

I'd still vote for options, but I'd be very much happier with how it is now. If and only if you fix the above.

Maybe so, but it would be wise if GGG removed showing names to who the loot is allocated to. It's just telling the player "the loot has my name on it."

I will have to disagree with this.

I play hardcore but I do not enjoy any loot competition. Please don't bunch pro-FFA with hardcore league players. There's quite many of us no-ninja types in hc :)

I doubt this would change anything, to be honest.

People would still create no ninja games, it just means there will be more deceit (from griefers or not), because not only would you know who ended up taking the item, you also wouldn't know who the item was initially assigned for.

This might have worked if the timers never previously had names on them, but since they have, people now think that the loot is theirs. Personally, there's no better indicator that something is mine than when my name is on it, within reason. (Don't blow this out of proportion, if I draw my name on the beach, I do not own the beach.)

My complaint about the loot system rests solely on the fact that there are faulty game mechanics that cause pathing issues to obtain loot - and until these are solved, I feel that the best solution is to extend the loot timer by a few seconds, to compensate for body blocking / desync. Sure it would slow down gameplay, but does desync and pathing issues also not slow down gameplay?
