Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

Probably been mentioned, but I ain't reading 750 pages of messages lol. Why not just put in a Group Loot System? Then you can have your players who want FFA loot satisfied, and your players who essentially want a "turn based" loot system would be happy too. I know this set up would at least get me more encouraged to hunt in groups of randoms instead of right now only hunting by myself or 1 or 2 of my RL friends lol.

This.

There are a lot of strong opinions on both sides of the coin. Doing it one way or the other alienates a large group of potential customers. The easiest resolution is to add an option when creating a party. This way if you are that hung up on having loot "your way" then you just make your own party.
And the problem with that, as I've said before, is that it basically puts people who are playing two very different games in the same league.

If anything, I would begrudgingly accept loot system based leagues. Such as a Hardcore/Default allocation leagues and Hardcore/Default FFA leagues. This way the two play bases don't mix.

I just think the whole "league" concept needs to be utilized more. Not that what we have now isn't good (HC, Default, Eventually Cutthroat, and races).

I think their silence speaks volumes about how this is gonna go.

Edit: Which is why I'm optimistic about it. :)

They are working on updating the system.

The Devs have not publicly stated how they are changing it, but have stated they are working on it. I sent a message to ionface regarding this topic and the reply I received states:

Chris made that[this] thread, and I think GGG has two of their best guys fixing the issue. Even just this patch we had some looting changes, and there will possibly be a lot more soon.

Now the question is how do they maintain the core loot system while reducing player frustration and nurturing a in game community?

I feel that the race leagues are the best place for the current loot system.

I still hate the loot system how it is now and it refrains me from grouping with others
Plz shoot dead all the ninjas..

Why cant i make a public game with the option that is not free for all with like minded people.

Im so certain if you implement this that 90% or more of the game will turn of free for all.
or at least make it for uniques and gems and currency items..

rares i dont give a sjit about to be honest

Looting options alienates the least amount of people. IMO
Standard Forever
- Make your game public

POPup appears loot options

- free for all
- free for all (timed).. with a slider from 2 to 10 sec
- named loot 0 blue 0 rares 0 uniques 0 gems 0 currency . Have to highlight which loot

option to make it default choice for next time

Until I see a better solution to the problem, yea.

Just display the name of the person who picks up an item that does not belong to him/her.
