Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

Just need to take away the pathfinding to timer'ed items. Other players' items shouldn't be clickable until the timer is up.

" This is gonna be the reason for me not playing this game long term, i love the game, but i dont have any IRL friends that wanna play "diablo clones" as they call them and this useless system makes me not wanna do party play. so basically its a single player game with a trade system. why the designers feel less choice is better is beyond me, and it really saddens me that this games is hold back because of it. just make instanced loot already and stop defending a system that has no merits besides encouraging less uncooperative play. EDIT: and the fact that there has been no reply to this thread for almost 2 years kinda makes me feel i should just throw in the towel and find a game with a design philosophy that makes sense to me. I have opposed the current timer/ffa system for such a long time and GGG seem to have their heads stuck so far up their..... I can't see it changing any time soon.
In any case, if you can't beat em, join em. I grouped up with some player the other day and saw a GCP drop in someone else's name. If you know where to stand (and can identify the graphic on the floor) you can stand over the item in such a manner so that nobody else can get to it. I did this in order to ninja the item from the group. Did I feel good for it? No. But did it make up for everything I have probably lost in the mean time? Yes. Needless to say I was booted from the group pretty quickly, but I hang around the instance. Got a few more nice drops using the same strategy. Is this really what GGG want us to be doing? It is a horrible way to play the game and I could only justify it later on because the instance became me vs the group. Also a pro tip for other people out there wanting to ninja loot is you have to use frost wall. If you can place it properly you can push all the other players away from the loot and get yourelf into a nice position to just take whatever you want. Brings a real cut-throat feel to the game. " I recommend joining I guild. Several advertised on the forums. I joined one and there always someone online to group up with WITHOUT worrying about loot. I beat cruel, ruthless and merciless and all I got were some maps.

" I mostly play pub games and rarely see people "JUST" standing around mooching exp. and snatching loot. And the odd times that i do i find it funny. But, some people honestly do this because to much skill spam makes their FPS drops. And other people just have mental issues and see things that really don't exist. I mean sure, people circle around loot like vultures. I do this all the time...As im figthing. Thats how you play. If you see something you want and can pick up safely its common sense to go for it. Anyone who can't fight and pick up loot at the same time obiviously can't multitask very well. I personally think its funny when people cry about me 'ninjaing' a drop when i kil the monster. I bashed some Unqiue monster into a corner and dummied it to death all by myself. A unique ring drops for with a looot timer for some player across the screen. he runs over try and get it, but NooOOoo WAY. Of course i get it and he RAGES about me 'ninjaing' the ring. He rages even more when i start doing it to a few other things. Now im public enemy NUMBA UNO in his eyes. He then starts freakin out, telling the Party Leader to kick me. As if he deserves it after i kill the damn thing...lol. Atleast the party leader just ignored it and the whiner left. |

what about adding some optional passive skill tree nodes that increase loot timer
or maybe stats that do it on gear? |

Ideas -
1. Gear should not even be viewable to other players when the timer is still active. 2. let us determine our own group options - GGG constantly quotes that one guy saying they wanted the timer to be low to keep the game play fast. I disagree with this greatly, and I think most do too - so give us our own group option, much like you get in MMOs, where we can make groups with loot timer option durations, visible, shared, ect. forcing the entire games population to play 1 way, when so many clearly severly disagree with this idea is just bad for the game in general. seeing other players in game, should be a welcoming thing, not a feeling of dread. |

" /\ THIS! Best idea! Let players choose whatever they want... and everyone ends up happy. |

I'm fairly certain that after close to 700 pages, GGG has heard your complaints/requests on the subject. This thread has turned into sort of whining it looks like.
GGG has said they are discussing the issue. They haven't said much more than that because, obviously, it's a really touchy issue. GGG will make an announcement if any changes will be made when they come to a decision and probably will be like half way finished with it when they make that announcement. Just bare in mind, it may not be how you want it to be. GGG has a vision of how they want their game to be, as a game they themselves would want to play.Any changes will follow that scheme of thing, and it's just something we're all going to have to deal with I don't stand on either side of the issue. |

Personally, I think the timer needs to be a tad longer.
Also... perhaps a arrow pointing towards loot with timers on them that are off the screen. I've lost MANY a item to another thanks to me not actually knowing that the item dropped 1-2 screens away. |
