Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.

Christ, I hope more then anything that GGG realizes that players make terrible devs, and just ignores the mass whining in this thread. Long live FFA loot!
Current system is not FFA, it is allocated with a timer.

Maybe you should start a thread asking for them to create a new league with a FFA rule set.

This is incorrect.

I made the mistake of stepping into this discussion (and others) in in-game chat. Abort!

The thing that's puzzling me about this issue (and one or two issues usually dismissed with "it's supposed to be hard") is that the game's economics are based on selling vanity items (with the exception of extra tabs, which are obviously useful) to "hardcore" players and alienating the casual gamer who might be expected be no less interested in vanity items, if not more.

D3's endgame content had no problem separating the "hardcore" player from the casual gamer, so I would agree it's not a matter of either/or.
I read the first 5 or so pages, don't have time to read the next 600.

As far as I see, there are a few options to fix this issue:

The best option I have seen so far is to let the party leader pick loot style. Perhaps have 3 choices. One the current one, one with no timers at all and truly FFA loot, and one with permanent allocation, where your drops remain your drops. Everyone could still see other drops, but have them remain grey.

For me I would prefer an option where we can see other people's loot but cannot grab it at all, ever. "Cutthroat" shouldn't be a part of PvE imo. I am a PvP player, and that's where that aspect should remain.

In essence, the loot timers make it more of a slap in the face to not get "your" allocated loot. I recall seeing an exalted orb drop with my name on it; I saw it instantly and started making a run toward it. Not fast enough. That was the only exalted I have ever seen drop, and it was more of a slap in the face to have it have my name on it only to not get it, and I made a run for it the moment it fell. This is where the problem in this system lies.

I sincerely hope they change the loot system or just add more options, because as is, it is the one element that is worse than Diablo 3.

Why not take a poll?

The idea with PvE and PvP in Wraeclast is the two are not separate by magical walls or boundaries and the like. Like in real life.

Obviously the game fails to deliver atm in regards to that.

And it's not "allocated to you" FYI.

Obviously the game fails to deliver atm in regards to that, but PvP for all loot in an instance is my suggestion for fixing that. Or PvE and PvP can swap mid-instance. Either or.

And it's not "allocated to you" FYI.
