Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" Well for the record, I want exactly that. If I see another good way to fix screen clutter then I might change my mind. |
|
" The chat is the most recent comment on the system. They stated that they are increasing the timers on some items and removing it on others. Does anyone have the twitch link? The comment from a month ago was sent from Chris to a tester via PM and he stated that increasing the loot timer would be easy to implement. I don’t have a link for the comments and I don’t feel like digging. IGN: Wrathmar * Paulie * Client

" that could be fun ...I dont agree to have all the equipment drop like in HC races , but only the piece looted .....duel for your loot :P Btw giving my feedback on looting system. I have to say that with other few things this is the most horrible thing in the game. I was playing as ranger and everytime I was running to get my loot or I was killed or some one else took it .....and when you loose a map ....game is not fun anymore.... Since I started play Templar .....things going better ....I'm more close to mobs during the fight and now.....I dont give a crap if the loot wasn't on my name or not ....when timer expire I just grab it and when peoples complain.....well I say .....not my fault .....complain with the devs :) I don't know why GGG keep this horrible looting system , just give players a way to choose when they enter a map if loot is FFA or to name and everyone will be happy. |

" Funny you said that because all this thread basically is about some people asking for options while some other people tell them to shut it. " Let's not exaggerate. You're part of the dev team that you can state that with great confidence? Why don't we let the devs tell this, after all is their code and they know better than all of us. It could be easy as hell or complicated as pink, we dont know that. Last edited by mobutu#5362 on Feb 14, 2013, 4:20:55 PM

As a retired programmer with some experience in game development and a member of a community of gamers, programmers, and IT professionals - which includes a few active professional game developers - I will state with authority that Juggernaut448 is talking out his or her arse.
Beyond that, not having seen GGG's codebase, nothing can really be said. If they wrote the game in a programming style that results in a mess like say nethack's source code then yes it might require many many hours. If they, on the other hand, are at least average modern day programmers or better, then depending upon the degree of change it could be one hours work or a hundred hours work. No one outside the GGG programming team can say more than that. TL;DR: People like Juggernaut448 don't have a clue about programming. |

I just add my saying in this. I respect the current loot system and understand the concept, BUT its far from being something for me. To me its super stressful to play HC as it is.
Im a slow reader and have dyslexia, and my reaction isnt what it used to be. So most of the time I get back from a raid with 1/3 of all the stuff I could get. Eather its getting there to late or the item is flipping all over the screen. Just seeing those GCP and qualitygems get ninjaed is just sad. Ppl who dont have this problem (the majority) will probably say something like "Get a group with honest ppl" bla bla. Im a casuall player and like to play it casual, joing a group to take a boss now and then. But it removes all the fun when ppl ninja stuff all the time. Because my head is a bit slower as everyone else. To be able to change the lootsystem in the party menu would make all this ninjaing be lower. Just have a seconds-slidebar to choose the timerbar on the loot. Right now the most common thing is, if the rightful owner of an item isnt there in time, at least 2 ppl is spaming the hell out of the mousebutton to get the item and stop everything what doing dmg is. My idea of a loot system. You choose from the regular system or this one. If longer time isnt a option. You get a small popup along the leftside of the screen for each of the loot in youre name (Hover it to see spec). You have 2 options, yes or no. Now we dont have to bother about a short time you have to travel to get to the loot, because the loot come to you. ----------( Loot )------------ |...._______........_______...| |....| Yes |..........| NO |......| |................Timer...............| | --------------------..........| |________________________| IGN: Mezoyo

" I don't see how it's funny, but alright. Yeah, there are people asking for options, that's it's own compromise, but those same people aren't listening to other compromises that could also work. They're doing the same thing as the people who are saying "shut it" by saying "this is the way and the only way." " Obviously I'm not part of the GGG development team, I've worked with a group of people on a game though, a small group, and it did indeed take some time to add larger features to the game itself. I'm not exaggerating to a degree, I understand a small amount of how to code, it's definitely not something I enjoy trying to do. Of course in a previous post, I did mention that GGG is a larger company and they might have more talented programmers working there and it could of course take less time. I still would place it at a longer time to be on the safe side though, more development time means a better refined system. Unless of course they want to put in place a buggy optional loot system, which I'm quite sure they wouldn't. Last edited by Juggernaut448#1888 on Feb 14, 2013, 4:44:48 PM

" CAPS FOR TRUTH! If you think I care what you think, you need more of a life than I do.

" Well thank you for being as rude as possible. I know I don't have much of a clue about programming, of course people with the skills to program and knowledge and such are better at it. I've learned a bit of C# and it became complicated quite fast, which is why I stick to doing the artwork. I've been told by people who do program that it's not always easy. When I'm told that I believe it since I have a bit of experience and they've much more experience in it than I. I find it's safer to assume it would take a longer time than to assume it would take an hour to implement a new/different feature, but the professional programmer who you are, and who has the authority, wants me to stop speaking from my butt-hole, so I suppose I shall close it now. |

The problem is that the system isn't really "FFA". It's the worst of both worlds. People who see their name on gear instantly have this entitlement that the gear is theirs simply because the name was rolled for it, and get annoyed when someone else (even if that person may be more deserving for having carried the team) grabs it. And players who carry teams feel slighted because the RNG decided that they don't even get the chance to grab the best loot. Both sides are unhappy.
It would be much better if it was true FFA so people can understand you have to be quick/nearby to grab loot, or have instanced loot so everyone can pick up their drops at their leisure. This janky timer system is the worst of both worlds. |
