Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
" You are wrong, they can please us all by putting various looting options in the game. Options we can can choose to use to suit our own individual preferences. All games have player definable options to enhance their playing experience; graphics options, audio options, keybind options, chat filter options, difficulty options and so why not looting options? Those most vehemently opposed to allowing this should ask themselves why they want control other players gamepplay in such negative way? Why so opposed to letting other players enjoy the game they way they want to? As to the money aspect, why should I pay for what I perceive to be a lacking product, I wouldn't buy a car with a flat tyre or buy a cinema subscription where I could only watch films on tuesday morning at 9am. |

I posted this a few threads back yet it went ignored. Seems people would rather argue with me when i defend FFA loot but ignore me when i post something positive..lol
Anyways. 1.) REMOVE THE LOOT TIMERS and NAMES. This simply is too random and causes to many problems.. Also, its really unfair. 2.) Increase the size of loot pick up radius to about a ONE yard. As is, you have to be exactly on top of the drop to pick it up which causes problems for everyone. And...Last but not least 3.) Instanced Loot. Its obivious the constant complaining about it from alot of players will hurt this game in the long run. So, if they are going to cave in and put in instanced loot. GGG should make it a check box option. Right beside your characters name in the character select screen. A simple check box. Once you choose the option (on/off) you will remain checked until you log back out to the character select screen. And, if you check it Istanced Loot (ON) you no longer benefit from 'Party Rewards'. Seems fair. Since it still promotes FFA loot with better rewards but now allows IL players access to their OWN drops. And they can switch back to FFA loot anytime they want at the character select screen. So..... Hows that? I mean, i still hate instanced loot. But i think those 3 things listed together would just make the game better. Anyone agree? Last edited by Vooodu#7002 on Feb 2, 2013, 1:14:00 PM

" No they certainly CAN'T please us all. If it was easy as you make it out to be, then WHY wouldn't they "please us" all? Do you think they are some kind of masochists that find enjoyment in torturing poor fellas like yourself? If they allow open PVP it won't please those who don't want open PVP. If they allow open PVP enable / disabler, it wont please those who like open PVP, since no one would play that. They have to get a decision and stick by it. Either turning the game into a hardcore experience or a walk in the park experience that even my dog can complete. Currently, its somewhere in the middle but more in the walk in the park side |

Hey guys. Great game you have here. I'm really enjoying playing it, but there's one thing that bothers me: the loot system.
I always avoid playing with other people because there's the huge chance that I will not get the loot I need. I really, really dislike the fact that I have stop paying attention to combat just to make sure that I don't get robbed. Yeah, I'm a melee class so I'd have an easier time than others I guess, but I'm playing on HC and I dislike the idea of having always hold down ALT and fill my screen with letters. It feels bad to me. I can see why devs like some sort of FFA looting system (Torchlight 2 didnt have this kind of thing, and looting didn't feel as good as D2), but I honestly believe that the game would be better off if this only existed in cutthoat league. If you wanted to piss someone off in D2, you could join their server, declare hostility (while in town) then go ahead and try to kill or grief them. They could also fight back. PoE doesnt have this. In PoE (HC, SC league) you join someone's party AS A FRIEND, then you compete with your group members by seeing who can click on items the fastest. No, that's not what "cutthroat" means. Of course loot stealing should be a thing in cutthroat leagues, but not in normal party gameplay. All this does to normal league / hardcore league is discourage players from playing with stragers. I am also displeased with all the talk of ninjas on global chat. I simply do not want to have to deal with that. I don't get the argument that players should compete against each other while in a party. Friends share loot with each other (if I'm a witch, I give the 2h hammer to the guy that is built to use it), but strangers don't do that. They sell the items they can't use. And that creates a shit community very, very fast. Last edited by raz415#4534 on Feb 2, 2013, 2:02:48 PM

"Your intention is not to pay a single dime from the get go. Its quite evident by this post. What you are saying is, you are gonna enjoy the great single player experience that this game offers for FREE and if they dont apply your suggestions in game you are gonna go off boat as fast as possible. No, with that kind of attitude, you aren't going to pay anything no matter what, instanced loot or not. If you were, you should do even without instanced loot, because the single player is awesome and you are gonna enjoy it. Its fucking stupid to say "I will enjoy single player for free no matter what but I'll pay if I enjoy multiplayer too". Sure pal |

" Those two things have nothing to do with eachother. |

" They do. Since most of the instanced loot crowd says FFA is bad cause they get ninjaed (which means they have a brain disorder and should go play an even easier game with even higher than a 5 second reaction time) then they both make the game easier. There is your connection |

" I absolutely agree with this - the name tags are probably what are causing most of the entitlement issues we're seeing here. I think a lot of the complaining would disappear if GGG just removed the names that are displayed to show which players' distance from the item has been used to calculate the timers' length. What have you become when even nightmares fear you?

Please for the love of kiwis remove the names from the timers in groups...so much qq because something had their name on it.
I know that you want group loot to be cut throat and i like the idea but by adding the name to any bit of loot gives so many new players a sense of entitlement which is not in keeping with the game world or your design ethos. Ancestral Bond. It's a thing that does stuff. -Vipermagi

" This is true. The cutthroat feel comes from you placing other players in danger, not from stealing loot from party members. The cutthroat feel comes from harming people that can defend themselves, not from griefing party members that can't do anything about it. Really, the only place FFA should exist is cutthroat league, because it's the only place it makes sense. Hardcore is based around playing with people you TRUST to help you advance and survive, and unless playing with friends you just can't trust people to give you the loot your character needs. Having a direct upgrade for your gear drop and a stranger in your group asking for 5 chaos orbs for it just isn't doing anything for anyone. Last edited by raz415#4534 on Feb 2, 2013, 1:58:47 PM
