The GGG developers have made a game THEY would want to play.

They are not ONLY doing that. They are making the game they want but they are also forming it around what the community wants.

If you think the devs are ONLY doing what they want then your just plain wrong.

Lets not act like discussing the looting issues is a huge problem. The devs started this thread and are letting it run.

This is all true. I've seen interviews with Chris where he has mentioned he didn't agree with some changes to 'his' game, but that they were made for the good of it.
In a very grind heavy game the death penalty equates to...more grinding.
Eh this still seems to me to be something that discourages group play.
It's impossible to have FFA AND expect players to behave at the same time. It seems like GGG takes a naive stance upon this; "We want FFA as a theme, it suits the aesthetics ya know, but we also want the community to be nice and constructive and stuff... please don't be assholes? :D"

Not gonna happen.

If GGG truly believes in the game being cut-throat, and that doing so would be good for the game, we should be able to PK whenever we wish, and be rewarded for it. And their corpses should be lootable.

People would go batshit if a unique dropped under this system, and rightfully so. KILL THAT F***ER BEFORE HE CAN PORT BACK TO TOWN!!! Now that's cut-throat.

Why should that godly item be entitled to him anyway, just because he was the one to pick it up first?

Yep. If loot with your name gets taken by another player, you should be given a 5 second window to initiate a duel to determine the true owner of that property. If the loot stealer denies the duel request, the item is automatically transferred to rightful owner/player is kicked/some other means of punishment.

You could also keep track of the number of duel denies, and after some number tallies up, the player is labeled with the tag "Coward" appended to his name.

Ahhh... I get it now.

Mindless troll.

FFA: The looting choice of Hardcore-Hero Manly-Men Griefers! Yo!
How about a system that allocates items for players in a party randomly, but not all the time? Sometimes a rare/unique could drop which is FFA, but other times it drops and is allocated to just one person indefinately - or, at least, for a longer amount of time than is currently allotted. This could give people their 'fair share' of the the loot but still allow that FFA feel on the items that were not allocated. I know this does not satisfy both both sides, but it might be a nice compromise. I personally like the system as it is, but this is a system that I could be happy with as well.

I don't really like this new suggestion. The nearby player will be closest to the item and I know it gives time for the ranged players to come and get it but the nearby player will most likely call first-dibs (grab it first). Players will crowd in one spot just to get that item as opposed to now where the item shows your name and only those who don't care will try to grab it (hardly anyone in the games that I've played). I suggest you come up with a new idea to satisfy each player's needs. I don't see why having match options are out of the question... Hope you consider this (if you believe I have a point) and thanks for asking!
god, and only just implementing instanced loot, would make all those disskusions and points irrelevant (face>table)

its so simple to satisfy all potential customers/supporter and doesnt mean anything to all who like pvp elements in a pve game xP
