Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
My personal experience since Open Beta
Most of the characters I've been playing since OB have been ranged and in HC. In Private parties the Loot is fairly distributed. However in Public parties the VAST majority of people are extremely rude and unpleasant regarding loot. Of course there are the exception to the rule. I even had a case where Danteleet Rushed over Stole my Exalted Drop then before I could even bitch in chat promptly opened a trade window and handed me my Exalted. I salute you sir. We need many more like you on the server. Overall I like the system but we need much longer timers. I'm BACK :)

" me2 instanced loot / full ffa (no timers ) keep everyone happy (i want the statistics tho on how much parties created with one or the other :p for pure statistics really :P) When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

Why not have them all and the party leader decide the loot rules from a list? Give the options exiled themed names... lol

Split loot at the end of the quest? That might be fun :)
But I think I'm going to stick to private parties from now on. It's more fun and you can discuss who gets the loot rather than what currently happens in public parties. While I'm not going to quit based on the current system, I think instanced loot for default at least is the best way to go. |

@ mobuto
I really love your arguements, you are absolutly right. Unfortunalty a lot of people still dont understand that "if you dont like FFA loot go play D3" is no argument... Really, I try to be fair on making up my opinion. Also I try to "like" FFA loot, but I cant. Also I am still missing valid PRO ARGUMENT for FFA loot. -Cutthroat feeling -competitive and other arguements where perfectly disproved by muboto. The ONLY SINGLE pro Argument of FFA loot is: - you can pick up loot from other players which they might not need but what is the point of this? Spam the economy more in the long run? No benefit to the loot concept in my opionion it just satisfy the "ME WANT MOAR" attitude, no matter if its beneficial to the game. How ever, I could probably write 2 pages of CON-Arguments explaining them. I am 100% sure FFA loot will not be the only possibility in the future, it HAS to be changed and it WILL change, its just matter of time. But reason takes its time here... |

" It totally destroys the feeling of playing with other people. I don't need any other argument. --== Enjoying the game ==--

This is great work, moikpei. A full recount if you go that far will provide more context regarding this hot topic.

I love current system. I like that when I am playing in a full game and we are playing all together, loot is exploding from mobs all around me like a pinata. I know that in a game like D3, where you have your own personal loot, the roundly the same net amount of loot is dropping, but I think that being able to see and interact with all of it adds an excitement and drive to play in groups that was removed when D3 went down that road.
I also think that there are some communal benefits that are under appreciated. If you're playing with someone whom has been friendly or shown you respect, you can choose to let them pick up your rares if it's for their class. If someone is being a twit, you can just as easily take their class loots and use them for an alt or the like. I think that this choice adds an element of interest to group play that would not otherwise exist. I would be very opposed to a D3esque system or any WoW NBG style setup; it's just not how I want my ARPGs to play. |

" But that you do in d3 as well. Loot the item and drop it for them to pick up. Or if the current system is kep but a longer timer and pick range is added, you can do it as well. The only thing you lose is the possibility of ninjaing. Which is all this about. The minority likes to ninja loot the majority prefers for it not to be in the game. Closed beta player, August 2011

It's really a poor experience as ranged. You either favour looting, running in and out of the melee to get your stuff (obviously your contribution to the fight suffers) or you carry on dpsing and loose your stuff.
An option on party creation to turn off FFA hurts no one, all the ninjas can carry on as before though I'd be surprised if more than 10% of the parties would be created with it turned on. |
