Chat Channels

a "friends" channel would be really nice too. For players (like me) which keep there friendlist short because all people you are chatting with are already in your guild/instance this would be really nice and would decrease the need to whisper individuals.

A history is always great when dealing when chatting (simple list, bash like history e.g. search )
It's amazing how much can go wrong with a chat channel implementation, so it's great to see the devs aren't trying to force-feed their userbase with a particular system.

That said, I have always erred on the side of customization when it comes to what the end user can see - simply because each user is different.

But that doesn't really answer the question. Directly, I think the following options should be available to us to enable/disable as we will:

a) Regional Chat (a subsection of all connections in a region capped at a given number to control spam) - this will act as a catch-all for fellow member support/assistance.

b) Trade Chat (again, divided into a manageable subsection of users that can be joined/left at will up to a cap. ie Trade Chat US #1-20)

c) Act-specific looking for group chat.

I'm big on the "instanced" chat channels if you like, whereby only a certain number of people are allocated to a particular channel in the group identified by a trailing number. This keeps things workable, but also allows members to jump between channels if they so wish (ie. to reach more people when trading).
Sticky chat channels!

Perhaps a little off-topic but I'd certainly like to have sticky party chat channels instead of needing to put a % at the start every time I want to talk.
Hmm for me I would like to chat with those outside my instance - its great for hearing tips and well just meeting new players. If you limit us to the instances we are in as far as I am concerned I may as well just leave it off. I enjoy the HC chat at the moment but find default a little less um - well shall we just say maybe it could enjoy a few mods on there I think.

Would like to be able to copy things out of the chat box - people give urls or info I wish to save, but I cant copy and paste it elsewhere without a screenshot (or am I dumb).

I would like to lock in where I have decided to talk - so I can lock in a whisper channel, a party channel, or lock in global channel or whatever - its annoying when u are playing to have to stop and set the chat things up to answer someone so you don't send your comment somewhere you didn't mean to.

As someone else mentioned a loging ability could be good.

Wonder if its possible to drag the windows for the chat (and the map) offscreen somehow or to a side panel

Anyways thats my 5cents worth (the kiwi dollar is lower remember hehe)
Most online games have tags on messages and people can filter stuff as they like by them. Obviously there are some predefined filters applied as well like general, party, whispers, system, looking for group etc.

That way people can configure themselves that kind of chat tabs as they want.

Though in general I'd LOVE to have whispers in a separate tab per-person and not everything lumped together (though there should be an option to toggle between these in settings).

Another thing I'd like to see is kind of a combat log where I can see (and log for future analysis!) everything about hits, misses, procs etc.

In WoW I had tabs like this:
[everything][chat][guild][party][wispers][loot][system][combat]

Everything had, well, everything except combat log
Chat had party/raid/battleground/whispers/guild
Guild had guildchat
party had party/raid/BG chat
Loot had rolls and who got what
System had all the system events
Combat had combat log.

Combat log may be skipped from UI as well as long as it gets stored somewhere on disk for future analysis
I didnt read all 21 pages so sorry if someone already suggested this.

How about a Chatchannel for people +-2 of the level of my actual char? Could be a Channel to form a Party very fast.
I didn't read all 21 pages but, chatting as you have now seems good, but add in voice for those that do not use TeamSpeak or similar and make it party only (anyone that has played Call of Duty and sat in a lobby with a 5 year old on the other end will know why!).

Txt is good for global or in the town, but when you are in battle or organising a party, voice is best.
Yeah no, I have no keys left. Sorry to disappoint.

We're looking for feedback on what chat channels should be available to players.

The question is what other channels we should support.

Players will be able to disable channels that they're not interested in.

This might be difficult:-

What about an IN TOWN channel, or a WILDERNESS, DUNGEON channel

I like the idea of a trade channel as well

Also a FRIENDS channel
.....And that's all I have to say about that.

would be awesome if your last chat are stickyd, really annoying having to not die and same time type % or simmilar before fast txt.
So i dont use chat alot, instead use teamspeak & skype to not chat die.
