Gameplay focused on spamming one single skill?
I use Firetrap,Firestorm,Elemental Weakness. Meanwhile I am raising Zombies and Skeletons as they die (or run off lol) and sometimes use Fireball single target. Have one aura up.
At 38 I have already found myself wishing we had more skill hotkeys available. There are other skill gems being leveled on my gear I would use if I had the keys. I use elemental weakness, freezing pulse, cold snap/icespear , shield charge, leap slam, raise zombie, frost wall, rejuvenation totem, clarity, discipline, and vitality. I have also just added enduring cry.

yeah all my chars use 3-5 skills most of the time. But you could use one skill. Game is very open to what you want to do

I'm playing a Witch with:
- Power Siphon (+Increased Critical Damage) - Firestorm (+Increased Critical Damage) - Coldsnap (+Increased Critical Damage) - Ice Nova (thinking of dropping this one altogether in favor of Coldsnap) - Fire Trap - Bear Trap - Critical Weakness (curse) - Elemental Weakness (curse) - Lightning Warp (when $#%^ hits the fan) - Discharge (with 4x charges from Power Siphon) And: Clarity (mana regen aura skill)...which I can't even permanently keep hotkeyed anymore because I have too many other skills to use. |

In most hack&slash games, we can see same situation
It is a standard of genre. I can't remember a game that could not be finished by the one skill |

2 Attack Skills (Firestorm AOE - Fireball for single target)
20 Minions (7 Zombies and 13 Skeletons) 1 Curse (Elemental Weakness) 1 Aura (Discipline) 1 Exit Strategy (Lightining Warp) I guess that if you want you could focuse on one single skill and icnrease that to the max. I think it goes down to what you prefer. The great thing about POE is that you can optimize your pg every way you like. So 1 single active skill char can be as viable as one that has 4 o 5 skill that he has to continuosly spam. |

i am marauder and i have cleave/heavy strike/sweep for main attacks
then i have hatred and warlord's mark for buff/debuff and glacial hammer for those phys resist rares/champions i used them all 99% of the time so propably you are wrong :P it is far far away from 1 skill/attack spam and i am only lvl29 :P i am sure that IF you want you can build a 1-2 button char if you like :P When you judge another, you do not define them, you define yourself

" Surely you have not watched thousands of vids yet? ;) Some builds may gravitate towards one "main dps" skill. Trust me this game actually has more varied comabt than Diablo 2, the main limiting factor atm. is content. My melee Ranger has at least six skills that are used all the time, and they're all unique and useful in some way. Some are more survival, some are dmg focused. Not to mention you mgiht want to swap skill gems while in town, in order to maximize your build for certain kind of maps. |

" It's totally unnecessary to switch skills just because a mob is "resistant" to a damage source. You're going to do so much damage to it that it's resistance equates to ( at best) a extra strike or two to kill it. Glacial Hammer + Heavy Strike is redundant. And so is Sweep plus Cleave IMO. I say this with a lvl 58 and a lvl 55. I have yet to run into ONE mob that made me go " oh jeez this mob is resistant to that attack, I have to switch to something else." I don't think there's anything wrong with sticking with 1-3 build defining attack skills.( not including aura's, totems, or summons) Other wise, what makes your character unique, or belonging to that "build"?
