How come people don't hate Steam?
The OP would have been right when steam was first released, but it has been made into a very useful and nice program over the years.
It provides no copy protection/DRM, as everything can be played in offline mode. It's an online storage for games and savegames, and it's completely free. I can go on trips to my friends, download the games to their computer, and play with my own saves. Just where I left off at home. Lending/giving games to friends are also easy. As it doesn't have to be done in person. Diablo 3 is just another simplistic MMO, that's it's true DRM. "That's how you die properly, Sailor Boy.."

Because hate is for simple people.
No, okay, but I love the way the OP's points contained outright lies. HOW COME PEOPLE DON'T HATE STEAM? IT KILLS BABIES. It's just a fucking client. It isn't hogging all my resources, it never prevents me from launching a game, it doesn't cut off my game if my internet dies (assuming it's not an online game, where nothing could prevent that anyway). It also has useful extra functions I like, like chat, automatic updating (pretty huge one there) and screenshot taking/uploading. What reason do I have to hate it? If I was on dialup or something it'd probably be a pain, yeah, because its authentication can take a while then, but I'm not. |

Yeah, Steam is a DRM but have so many advantages (already listed by many) that outshines the fact that its a DRM.
What good is D3 DRM? "Live by the sword, live a good, LONG time"
