Unresponsive movement / activation will hurt this game IMO
" I have the same annoyance with phase run and in other threads have noticed that people complain about not being able to hold down the left mouse to move and then hit shift to force attack. I think the problem is that we can't use anything while there is input from the left mouse. Or has anyone found if this is a general problem, that no two keys can be used at the same time (i.e. one is held down and hitting another key does not interrupt it) “I look only to the good qualities of men. Not being faultless myself, I won’t presume to probe into the faults of others.” - Gandhi

Another big problem for me is that left click is movement and basic attack at once.
Sometimes I'm trying to run, but I click too much close to mob so my character instead of running starts attacking. I'd like to have possibility to set left click only to movement. |

"I would as well. I'd also like it if we could rebind the left-click skill slot so we don't lose a valuable skill slot if we want to use left-click for something else. |

Read this entire thread:
1) I agree, the animation seems "blocky" or "slow". I know the Devs have expressed concern with this, I really think the answers are that: - Attack animations need to not be as long "after" hitting or missing the target. - Buffs/Debuffs and other type skills need to not be only castable standing still. I think the answer would be to have those type of skills interrupt movement and have the animation sped up there as well. Both of these would give a more "fluent" movement and would be a huge influence on incoming players. The main competition to this game is D3 and probably TL2. Both of those have fluent movement and combat which is something PoE will need to compete with. 2) I do not think only allowing left mouse to movement is necessary. 3) Giving the option to "reverse" bind shift to play the opposite role, (ie you only move when shift is held down) would be great for casters. Atleast have that option. 4) Im not sure how I feel about attacks like "leap attack" where you click exactly where it is going to hit regardless of any monsters being there. I know things like D3 will "lock on" to a monster and if the monster moves away, the character and atack will follow and extend the duration of the leap to ensure that an attampt to "hit" takes places. I feel that currently it takes a little more skill to use, but it also gives a small sense of "dis-satisfaction" for me when I try to judge where the monster will be and due to lag or other issues, I DO land on the character but they wont get hit, I dont think this is a "miss" but just that the mechanic did not quite work right. |

Your #4 there happens to myself and others a lot.
That's a desync, and hopefully it'll be fixed in the next patch, they've got some server improvements cooking there apparently. I love that you can use Leap and Lightning Warp wherever you want, especially in dungeons like the Church, where you'll often find necros standing on a ledge ressing monsters below you. I find "aiming" landing positions and judging for yourself where mobs or players are going to be, to be much more rewarding than autoseeking. I think in general, using abilities like Leap&Sweep will be much more doable when/if the desync gets fixed and your abilities can be used reliably. |

" I just tested this in-game and what you describe is not how it works for me at all. I held left mouse button down the entire time, pressed the key for phase run and the character stopped for a moment to cast phase run, then continued running forward at the faster speed after phase run had been cast. I tested it multiple times and it worked perfectly every time. I don't get why it doesn't work that way for you? Last edited by Axebane#6055 on Jul 15, 2012, 10:24:20 PM

"We don't know. It works most of the time for me, but some people report it almost never working for them. We (or at least I) don't know why it affects certain people differently than others, but reports indicate that this is the case. Last I heard there was no way to fix this which wasn't a huge amount of work (and I don't know if that was a guaranteed fix). We're aware that actions don't correctly interrupt movement for some people, but we don't have a good fix yet, nor can we be sure why it happens for some more than others. | |
" I can confirm that it doesn't work that way for me. As long as I'm holding down move, nothing will work, but if I stop momentarily and press a skill like whirling blades, it'll keep going. Makes me think that the game ignores all input when my left mouse button is held down. |

" While I haven't played LoL, I have played games with similar control schemes that proved to be very rewarding. To me, the characters feel like tanks. Clunky is how I would describe it. Too much time is spent just standing there, and I don't enjoy the stop-start transitions between movement and attacking. I always use single-target skills on my LMB and stuff like Cleave on the right which I only ever use by shift-clicking, and with that I haven't had a problem so far.
I struggle hugely with activating stuff like Phase Run and Leap Slam though. It makes chars feel very sluggish and forces a more defensive playstyle since non-responsive skills often leave you dead. Last edited by hubb#1956 on Jul 16, 2012, 4:49:14 AM
