Might as well bring this up: PLEASE GIVE US A AUCTION HOUSE.

You guys need to chill the hell out.

Auction house is NOT the same as RMAH. Auction Houses are a very convenient way to structure trade. EvE online has the best economy in any game and its trading scheme is pretty much a series of disjointed auction houses.

What you guys are fearing is Blizzard's inability to pull an AH right. In WoW it was crap because the part of the itemization that mattered was exempted from the AH and trading altogether. And in D3 it's crap because real money is involved.

So fear not. A browser AH is coming to PoE but it will be just convenience.
They just need a Trade Chat using $ for the symbol. Instead of using global chat for sales and it should have the option to disabled the chat the same way as you can do with global.

Its not just the functionality of the auction house that ruined it (Diablo 3), its the very presence of it being there. In an ARPG, the whole fun of the item/loot hunt comes from finding the items yourself or having a friend find a really cool item piece for you with the ->OCCASIONAL<- good find with a trade.

The fact that trading or finding that really nice weapon or piece of armor is/was rare, made playing d1/d2 so much fun. It felt like you really earned that piece of gear. With the mere presence of an auction house that whole wonder/ anticipation for finding loot is destroyed.

The auction house is a MASSIVE SHORTCUT that ruins the entire spirit of ARPG's.

This is all IMO of couse, but... I'm right :)
I agree that the AH is a big part of what ruined Diablo 3, at least in my opinion. When I found my first legendary item in D3 I nearly had a heart attack. Although after seeing there where literally hundreds of pages with that exact "legendary" item it didn't feel that special any longer.

A trade chat would however be a great addition to the game.

That is the point. The convenience of getting every single item you ever need at exactly the right time with 0 effort.
And since this game bascially enter a new dimension of being "loot based" with the map, gem and flask item types, this is a major concern.

That's why:

Thankfully we know POE won't have an auction house.

This Is a online game. Interaction with other players In inevitable; altogether with someone selling a better item than yours.

So If this Is a major concern to you, my friend... I suggest you to play a offline ARPG and rely your "efforts" somewhere else.

AH did not destroy D3, developer willingness to exploit low droprates & sparse itemization for maximum AH transactions did.

Blame the market, not the exchange.
Pretty sure an auction house would destroy this game.

Forcing people to socialize and barter for items will always create a better system for smaller community games.

Totally agree. Auction Houses do not belong in this genre of game. Period. Because of the other game's implementation of one, the drop rates had to be skewered in order to compensate. So glad this game will never have an AH. I prefer to find/farm/trade for my loot. Makes these kinds of games worth playing, for years on end.
