Quite a bit of reasons why XP Death Penalty has got to go

The only time a ladder becomes "relevant" for more than the insignificant amount of players participating are races, and those are optional.

There is also no reason XP loss should exist just so that a small percentage of players feels better about them competing in some ladder the vast majority of the player base does not care about. You don't miss out on anything if there is no XP loss, given that XP above 90 gets adjusted.

Why can't your "sense of pride and achievement" come from content instead of a core part of any RPG? Other games with optional hard content usually don't have "reach the highest level" for a reason, because it is not as good of an idea as you might think it is...

Again, there is a ladder in every league. People do care about those ladders, not just during the races.

Demanding that aspect of the game will be destroyed entirely, just so little Jim-Bob can feel some validation by reaching level 100, which ironically would not be an actual achievement anymore? Huh?

So you want to take away the option for people to actually dedicate themselves to real competitive achievements just so you can unlock an imaginary achievement by reaching a certain arbitrary and meaningless number next to your character? :DDD

eh... not as many people care about the ladder as you think. people do care about race ladders tho for the most part.

i would argue the vast majority of the playerbase doesnt care, or care about hitting lv100.

if as many people cared about it, as you think. we would get a lot more people hitting lv 100 than we currently do.

the majority of builds are basically complete at lv 90-92, and are actually built, to be finished at that point.

most players hit lv like 85-88 and start immediately shifting their focus to currency generation over XP. since the rewards for hitting 90 and above, are so minimal, that no one really cares anymore.

if you actually got something for hitting lv 100, like a skin, or an item, or a stash tab.... literally... anything. more people would try to hit lv 100. but there is literally, no reason to do so as i said, the vast majority of peoples builds are already finished way before lv 100.

I a bit late to the party but there is a very simple way of turning the punishment of losing xp for dying into a reward gaining more xp for surviving.

Say you beat a map without dying. You are awarded a buff for the next map that increases xp gain by 25%. If you die in that map, it's gone. If you survive that map too, it gets extended to the next map and so on and so forth.

Rewards for behavior you want to see > Punishment for behavior you don't want to see

The point isn't to punish or reward. The point is to keep reaching level 100 very hard and unachievable for most players.

Those are fine suggestions. I'm all for cosmetic seasonal rewards tied to reaching upper level milestones (maybe something small for 95 and something cool/rare for 100?)

But for the most part you just confirmed my core point: EXP loss is not a bad thing, it's not a problematic issue, and should stay the way it is. The complainers just don't understand the design behind lvl90+.

i mean. xp loss isnt an issue to the vast majority of players. cuz like i said, once they hit a certain point in the passive tree, where they have everything need to for their build to be done.... they dont NEED xp anymore. and that is generally like i said, around lv 90-92.

is it a bad thing? thats up to interpretation. i dont personally gaf. and most people dont either.

but like i said. if there were a valid reason, like obtaining something like a skin or something... more people would care and try.

IMOOOOOO. the only people who gaf about xp penalty... are ODC ADHD people who go berserk over not being able to hit max level.

and thats a personal problem.
not a design problem.

100% agree!

But those OCD ADHD people complain a lot in this forum. There's at least one new thread about EXP loss daily. They simply can't understand that their rage is self-induced.

if lv 100 was necessary to kill content, then i could see it being a problem. but it is 100% not necessary to do any content in the game.

so therefore, again, it is not a problem.
Good points all around.
Abolish xp extortion.
All xp is created equal and derves protection from B.S.
Don't be an xp hater or do I don't care.

It isn't hard tho. It's just a matter of time invested. Besides, it doesn't matter what the intention is, psychologically, progress being stripped away from you will always feel as punishment. No matter what.
So even if you keep dangling that carrot of lvl 100 before the player hidden behind a sheer wall of time investment, it will always feel better to be "rewarded" for not dying, than being "punished" for failing. Simple psychology, really. GGG just isn't daring enough to think outside the box with this "race to 100", instead they insist on a 20+ year old outdated psychological punishment mechanic

It is a problem, otherwise there wouldn't be so many threads with so many pages of comments about it.
