A Simple Poll - Exp Loss on Death

In other words, you agree the 10% penalty is over tuned and suggest a work around that requires you to purchase an omen that keeps going up in price while you can only have 1 active omen at a time.

How would you conclude from my comment that I think 10% penalty is too much?

10% is perfectly fine for several reasons:

- Builds should be made with lvl 90-92 in mind, not with lvl 100. So any EXP beyond that is pretty irrelevant in most cases, unless you care about the ladder (in which case you should know how to play without dying a bunch anyway).

- Getting to lvl 90 is pretty easy, even when dying here and there, unless you are playing way too reckless.

- If you are playing way too reckless, you SHOULD be punished.

- Omens give you an additional choice. It's suppose to be a tradeoff. But again, even without Amelioration, reaching lvl 90 is not that difficult or tedious.

Really, the only thing I wish they added is a "freeze EXP" option (no gain, no loss) for cases where you want to practice a new pinnacle boss, for example.

You admitted a single death in a dozen maps or so will bring you down lower than you started. If you don't think 10% is too much, then you're saying it's good design to take away all the XP from a dozen maps from a single death.

Dying once every dozen maps is not a build or skill issue, sometimes the unbalanced game in early access puts you in situations that almost guarantee death, unless you are using a broken meta build with ridiculously priced meta gear. In other words, you're getting punished by losing hours of XP for not trivializing the content

The skill points beyond 90-92 are not irrelevant, they are important to a lot of people. If you don't care about them fine.

No. I literally said it will NOT bring you lower than where you started.

Also, I'm not even close to dying once in a dozen maps.

I just had a bug, where the crow bell boss went immortal, and lost 10% exp. That fun? That cool?
Double dip nonsense there. Made me quit the game for this evening. IF this goes on with these stupid bugs, I won't touch the game again. Get rid of the 10% XP loss, till they fix their bugs.

Apples and oranges.

You missed the point I see.
IF there are such bugs, such penalty should not exist.
Does this sentence for you make it easier to understand?
Try to use your brains.

You literally said if you have an omen active a death every dozen won't bring you down lower. That implies not having the omen would bring you down lower.

I don't really care if you don't die once every dozen maps. Suggesting that someone in the 90s needs to learn to play, because of 1 death in 12 maps, is about as ignorant and elitist as one can get.

What I've gathered from the responses here so far is that people
want to play a weak/experimental build
AND that they want to do it at a high level
AND that they might be under-geared
AND that they don't want to use omens
AND that they want to play while "zoning out."

Like, at some point even the most casual observer will have to realize that EXP loss is not the issue here.

Secondly, you're implying that reaching lvl 90 means the player is performing at a high level, knows what they are doing at all times, knows what to look for in all fights and how to dodge properly, etc.
That's not the case. As I said earlier, reaching lvl 90 is pretty breezy. Before that, the EXP loss is barely noticeable. Simply a bit of grinding will get you there, no skill needed.

Which is exactly why EXP loss in its current form is necessary. Without it, reaching max level would be just as easy. All it would take is time. That would defeat the entire purpose of a ladder.

You're grossly oversimplifying and exaggerating everything so you can strawman attack it. Pointless to discuss anything with you

A wise man told me becareful what you wish for.

GGG have a habit which goes back years of giving and taking away.

E.g. You want exp loss removed, OK sure but now you get even less exp per mob.

"See we gave you what you wanted"

POE 1 players should be more listened too, they know GGG more than others and have experienced this constantly through out the years.

P.S

I am a Dog and i will just drop my load and leave on to the next post
