Mouse cursor aiming discrepancy + other targetting issues
It's probably a lot of situational fine tuning that would be required and it wasn't considered as high priority for this development cycle. Hopefully it gets addressed in a successful manner soon, because it really feels disgusting to deal with.
Don't get lost by being so focused on the target that you forget to enjoy your surroundings.

It's fixed!
Now we just need options to disable auto-aim and name-locking and it'll be perfect. Don't want to sound unappreciative however - cursor-targeting is a phenomenal first step. Thanks GGG! |

" From the way they sounded during one interview I don't think we will get no namelock without lots of whining and complaining... |

"User Interface Changes
Added a new Aiming Mode Input option that allows you to pick between Cursor Targeting and Ground Targeting when using a mouse and keyboard. Cursor Targeting causes skills that travel directly forward (such as most projectiles and strikes) to pass directly through your cursor's position. Ground Targeting (i.e. the pre-0.3 targeting behaviour) causes these skills to pass over the ground location targeted by the cursor. Skills that directly target the ground will do so at your cursor's location regardless of this setting. By default, Cursor Targeting is enabled for WASD and Ground Targeting is enabled for click to move." From one of the patch notes for 0.3 I don't see enough people talking about this for some reason, it's finally fixed apparently?? Last edited by Vyend#2601 on Aug 28, 2025, 2:19:26 PM

yes and no, this just fixes where it targets but I don't know if that means it bypasses the auto aim, namelock, whatever you wana call it...

No it won't do anything about the autoaim or namelock, those are separate issues GGG will have to address.
However after having played the patch the setting does not work at all. Both "Target Cursor" and "Target Cursor in WASD" do absolutely nothing and work exactly the same as "Target Ground" for me. |

Ok just to clarify it seems to *mostly* work for Melee skills (aim feels slightly off on some angles but broadly speaking its at the cursor) but Ranged is still using ground-aiming, no matter the setting.

Agreed, one of the biggest problems that plague mercenary

Just recorded a quick video showing the bug: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mi3tFfLHIbg
Towards the end you can see how it's really jank. Stationary cursor and yet the character will do full 180s when swapping between a melee and ranged skill. |

Namelock/autoaim still very much a thing and still a PAIN IN THE A$$... Nothing worse than trying to lead a target with a skill like bone blast only for namelock to target right under their feet where they will walk away from.... F I hate this sh...
