I had to stop watching today's interview

yup I have no idea why anybody would think that interview was anything other than a disaster.

management at GGG is horrific at the top end. Mark man... you really should see if you can do something about this, you seem to be the only front facing upper manager who is actually trying to do right by the player and respects your product (and hard work)
It really is insane how Jonathan keeps talking so negatively about PoE 1, or the game which has been praised so many times and touted as the "best in the ARPG genre" by so many people.

Even me, a person who doesn't usually play ARPGs, or any RPGs for that matter, found fun in PoE 1. It seems complex and confusing at first, but there's a lot of depth to the game and until recently, packages of new stuff came every 3 months.

I just don't understand why Jonathan is so hell-bent on realizing his "vision" and thinking that he knows better than the majority of the PoE community.

People with a drive and a "vision" rarely listen to reason. They have blinders on, ignoring everything but their vision.

This isn't a new thing. Jonathan has been badmouthing/mocking PoE1 in almost every interview the last two years. He's making it very clear that he doesn't like, nor care about PoE1. The only question is if anyone at GGG cares about PoE1.

But hey, I'm not the one to speak here, because I also have blinders on, as Jonathan has always rubbed me the wrong way as a professional, especially the last year or so.

Making a few light hearted or sarcastic jokes isn’t the same as mocking, especially when it’s about a game the devs themselves have poured years into.
If someone can’t handle a bit of sarcasm or playful commentary, maybe a live dev stream isn’t the right place for them.
Let’s not confuse humor with disrespect.

You're insane if you think it is a reasonable business decision to "make light hearted or sarcastic jokes" about the game when there is strong community sentiment already that you are forsaking the product for your new one.

Regardless of the intent of the commentary, there is zero chance that he doesn't know how the comments will be taken, and decided to go ahead with them anyway.

This is like a new CEO moving in to a company, firing people, then hiring 6 of his mates, and then claiming they were just the best people for the job. It actually doesn't matter if that is true or not, because there is no world where anyone believes it from the outside; it appears as nepotism regardless of if they are world class.

So sure; you might be right. It might be sarcasm or "playful commentary". Or it might not. You don't know anymore than the OP does. But for anyone already angry at GGG for their perceived desertion of the game, playful commentary is the last thing they want to hear.

Sarcasm and light-hearted jokes are normal human expressions, yes, even for businesses. Not everything needs to be emotionally dead or sterile just to appease a few upset players.
GGG choosing to be more open and less scripted in their live streams isn’t the problem, it’s actually refreshing with most content being heavily scripted these days.
If someone can’t tell sarcasm from seriousness, that’s on them.

And if a player chooses to stay angry at a game or company, that’s their choice to maintain an unhealthy relationship with a hobby, not the companies choice or responsible to take care of that.

Why should anyone care about poe1. I totally agree with them cutting the plug there to focus on making poe2 an outstanding successor. I played poe1 since beta and have had about 5k hrs of fun. It has been a fantastic arpg. But the age has caught up. Graphics are down and the complexity and messyness has become unfixable even if still had a great time in Settlers league.

And i totally agree poe2 atm is way too sloggish and unbalanced. You have to pick the right meta builds atm. Like max 5 build that can have fun. Rest is underperforming drastically or just not fun due to bugs. That doesnt mean that this cant become a masterwork. Poe the first years was pretty boring after you played for a good while. Nothing big happened, massive unbalance etc. After a while though it started really shining. I think this will happen to poe2 as well, thought they do need to make alot of effort to succeed.

Anyways there is no help in the massive amount of hate the community is giving atm.

With that amount of experience in the genre.....PoE2 should never ever be in this state. Sometimes you don't have to invent the wheel new. Take a look a gems, links, how ignite function, the skill tree, weapons etc ...

Everything is straight up a downgrade from PoE. Of course players hate it

If you want to make the same wheel over and over again, then yea - you don't need to reinvent anything. But then why name it '2' if this is the same product as it was?

Usually you do a second part to improve the weaknesses of part 1.

PoE2 fails any metric of improvement besides Visuals and WASD controls.

Literally everything else feels worse
