Calling your characters 'Toons'

Good grief yes. I actually wiki'd 'toon' and came across an old 80s RPG that funny dude Steve Jackson created called 'Toon'...so technically, the association between 'toon' and rpgs could go back at least that far...

OMG OMG I still have that source book. Great game.
No
Played WoW 2005-2010 and never heard someone call their character as "a toon", everyone just said main/alts there but TOON?
First god created wow, when he got bored he created the world.

All you wow haters need to get a life and some good taste with it, wow rocks. There is nothing better than to sit at home clearing a 10 hour dungeon to get a mount to add to my mount collection, and yes i know all the mounts do the same thing, but its the cool factor that really matters.

So wow haters. . . You can suck my cartoonish dwarf's ass.
ZOMG ITS BETA TIME!

I cant think of anything I would like to do less than a 10 hour dungeon (especially in a shitty mmo)... and I can't think of anything less rewarding than a stupid mount. Bad game is bad.

Wow hate, wow hate, wow hate, and some irrational wow hate. booya.

Did not come from WOW. I have used the term way before. I am also a HARDCORE D&D player except for version 4 wich I hate since its too much like WOW.

I don´t think you guys will get it, but once again.
This is Wreaclast.
They either have a "Name" or are just called exiles.

No Looneytoons, no Caretakers, no Twinks, no Alternatives, no Brothers, just exiles.

"Toon" was prevalent in early DAoC, started way before WoW existed

that siad, I don't know the origin, but your irritation with the term probably comes from the idea of it being in some way related to WoW style graphics, and it's not
Given I played on Percival server (one of the staunch Roleplay ones) with DAoC, I never saw 'toon' in-game but I do recall seeing it in relation to DAoC on fora. So yeah, there's that. But EQ1 and The Realm Online naturally predate that, so...

I think I'll settle for Jackson's 1984 tabletop RPG as a 'source' for characters being called 'toons'.

If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.

I used to play EQ and AO when they first launched, we called them toons. don't know why that is a problem.

Happy hunting/fishing
Well, I don't know about permabanned, but I definitely think calling your character a "toon" is a mistake.

I first heard it in Champions Online, which is funny because I've played dozens of MMOs including EQ and Asheron's Call where people have been reported to have used the term.

When I heard it in Champions, it made sense. The characters looked like cartoons. But I got sick of it fast when I discovered that it's something people called their characters in all kinds of games.
