You can't.

We will STOP YOU!
When I heard about cutthroat league I had a vision of a place, and in that place I saw a man, and in that man I saw my sword, and in my inventory I saw his loot
Why do you call my characters toons ?
I gave them a name for a reason ! Use it !

We were calling them toons LONG before we had video to go with the games. Muds are where the term gained wide spread popularity.
Please don't tell me WoW was the first ever game you played.

Toons, champs, heroes, char. Char is pronounced ch - are.

Quick FYI.... I will call it any damn thing I please.

Moonpie kitty love, ascii magee... you get the idea.

1) No, people weren't calling them 'toons before WoW.

2) You're pronouncing Char wrong.

I always found this term odd back in the D2 days but it never actually bothered me...

...but I would sure like to know where the term "twinked" came from, because there's some other meanings for that that make me cringe every time I see it.
@ the OP - be less of a moron. We used the term toon as far back as UO/EQ among my group of friends.
I hate it when people refer to characters as toons. I thought it came from the Guild Wars community though!

My sarcasm meter is completely busted on 1) I take it you are in the crowd were everything started with WoW.

Point 2) Char like car except with an H.

2) Char is pronounced care (like carebear). Just like Giga is pronounced jigga (like in Back to the Future).

This was discussed on another thread, and if my forum-fu weren't unusually weak this morning I'd link to it and close this one.

'Toon' goes as far back in my experience as Everquest 1. I only played WoW during its beta, before 'people' came along and turned me off the game permanently.

Axebane and anyone else claiming that WoW has no claim to 'toon' as a point of origin regarding a synonym for 'game character' is dead right.

Proto-MMOs such as Sierra's The Realm Online also featured players who referred to their 'avatars' as 'toons.'

While WoW might have popularised it, it certainly didn't spawn it.
If I like a game, it'll either be amazing later or awful forever. There's no in-between.

I am Path of Exile's biggest whale. Period.
WoW was the first MMO.
Its common fact.

PS. Also WoW invented elves if you didnt kno. :)
