Jonathan interrupting Ziz
" if thats how he acts in a public interview I can only imagine him alone in a room with his team, basically shutting down their ideas and criticisms trying to be the big man with an ego that HE was the one put in charge for a reason and they're doing X regardless. |

It was definitely hard to watch. Mark is a great active listener and should handle these interviews going forward IMO.

" I'd have to agree with you, the difference in how they approached the questions was like night and day. |

" Well, you do know Jonathan was the original founder right? The lore is POE is made out of a tiny garage with three people, Jonathan is one of those, alongside Chris, he knows games, he knows POE, he did make POE good and even POE2 0.1 was not complete but decent, that part really goes without saying, he just for some reason don't care that much anymore, or he thinks all POE players are dumb sucked it up for over a decade finally releasing it. It's like yesterday when most streamers start to say "devs really don't play their games", Steelmage instead says "I know for a fact GGG devs play their games", well I don't doubt Steel being honest here, but isn't that 10 times worse? If they do play the game, but the broken things that's so in your face that you will find out even after 1minute of gameplay would show, yet it's still in the game, only suggest they don't give a fuck about game being suck, it's just a job, they did their part whatever, for the same group of people who used to actively make the game better, now don't give a shit, something is wrong, something is majorly different within the company, that attitude usually exist on people who are in fear of losing jobs. I just think this has something to do with the fact Jonathan Chris and Erik (the other one of three founder) sold their shares to Tencent 5 months ago, everything about the 0.1 release getting so hot was because they were trying to up the stock in order to sell more money, they are abandoning ship with the company and prepare their next stop in life, which is not here, and whether or not POE can still thrive is not their problems now. Such a ridiculous fan base. Ungrateful and supremely entitled is an understatement

This is what people do when they know they are sinking a boat but can't admit it to themselves. Jonathan clearly has no respect for Ziz or the community of this game in general. Probably for the best if GGG can replace him with someone that has some level of PR ability.

" It really does explain a lot doesn't it, its like watching the first few months of HD2 repeat itself and the game isn't even fully released. The rushed blog was the cherry on top. Is he having trouble rationalizing his vision, or even explaining it? |

I can see where you're coming from but I didn’t read it as Jonathan being rude or trying to dodge the conversation. It felt more like someone who’s so deep in the weeds of this game that he jumps in fast—not to shut Ziz down, but to clarify stuff before it spirals into misunderstanding.
It's clear both of them cared a lot and were coming from passionate places. Ziz was frustrated, Jonathan was trying to explain the why behind decisions—it got a little messy, sure, but that’s what real conversations look like when the stakes are high and people actually give a f*ck. |

" Just because its a shiny sequel to PoE 1 in Early Access doesn't absolve them as a studio of backlash from absolutely horrible changes that were not needed and never asked for. I'd be grateful for a studio that can coherently communicate their vision without being a carbon copy of AHG and the first 3 months of Helldivers 2. I watched the first hour and it was a cordial discussion. Not everyone can have Speech 100 and answer everything perfectly. Jonathan did a good job of clarifying The Vision. He thought everything was perfect in 0.2 and said as much. Mark came forward with a bunch of potential ideas whenever pain points came up.
If the game is saved it will be by Mark. Worth checking back in on the game in 3 months. |
