It's NOT a skill issue.

Firstly, apologies for the hate you're all getting en masse, GGG. It's not deserved, but what's FRUSTRATING THE HELL OUT OF US is how CLOSE the game is to being AMAZING, so please take the vitriol as a compliment! It actually means we want to like your game, it's close to being amazing, there are just some kinks.

My goal with this thread is to highlight some overarching issues regarding the game being overdesigned, but I will use the warrior as a specific example to highlight these global issues.

EARLY

WARRIOR

SKILL

Is annoying as fuck to use. That double smash attacks is SO CLOSE to being satisfying, but so many times I get interrupted between attacks, so many times i move forward too much and miss all the enemies i'm trying to hit.

You might think, BUT IT'S JUST ONE SKILL USE ANOTHER!

Those spikes that errupt out of the ground take WAY too long. I just tried another attack and it requires the enemies to be in some kind of fragile state, I don't even know what triggers that.

If it's not annoying AOE's that change with forced movement, it's conditionals that don't make any sense. Or the skill just doesn't work.

Every single thing in this game is surrounded by these annoying conditionals! These tertiary and bloated states and sub states, heavy stuns, light stuns, HOBBLE, WTF IS HOBBLE, WHY DO WE NEED HOBBLE!

GOOD FRIGGIN LORD does EVERY SINGLE CLASS EVERY SINGLE ABILITY NEED TO BE DESIGNED WITH 5 PARAGRAPHS OF SUB MECHANICS!?

Can we just get nice satisfying abilities that work!?

Why do our skills all have to be channeled and easily interrupted to force us to have to get some tertiary stun resistance just to use our abilities on trash mobs.

IT'S TERRIBLE!

Reduce the level cap by 20, remove all this self inflicted defense investments against stun locks and the game will be 3x more fun I guarantee you.

Forcing players to leverage their builds against annoying bullshit is DESTROYING YOUR GAME.

Stop forcing us to have to deal with all the overdesigned mechanics that aren't fun in the slightest.

They don't make the game more challenging, they don't create more unique builds, they are just invislbe sinks that are destroying most peoples enjoyment of the game.

You guys REALLY need to learn the difference between exciting challenge, and ROCK PAPER SCISSORS.

All these tertiary states and effects are making it so much harder for you guys to balance the game. It's making it harder for the players to enjoy the game.

But you're commited to them because you THOUGHT they would add depth.

Rip the band aid off, make these abilities satisfying, remove the gimped cooldowns, the gimped trigger effects and then nerf the bonuses that enhance these things to be usable in the first place.

Too much preloaded gimped abilities too many crappy items, too many mindfields of players falling into where they don't enjoy the game, they just get massacered by the overdesigned pitfalls that add nothing of value to this experience.

It wouldn't even be that hard, remove all this design bloat, then enhance all mob damage by maybe 10% and give them a % life boost to compensate for the freed up talents that no longer have to go into annoying BS.

To repeat myself, FANTASTIC game. Hats off to you guys making so many AMAZING animation blends, and cool boss mechanics. But good lord stop injecting so many things that just add to the VOLUME of the game, and add almost no depth at all.

At the heart of what little bad design is in this game, is this notion that adding annoying things to the game for the player to overcome makes it better. IT DOES NOT!

No one liked that damned endurance bar in Diablo 2. Right now your entire game is one giant endurance bar from Diablo 2.

The "spikes" skill youre talking about i assume is earthshatter. You're meant to use a warcry to explode them. Of course you could be talking about earthquake, it is annoying. You can stack reduced skill effect duration and there is a support gem that makes that faster.

I know it sucks but you might try reading everything on the gems then read every support gem to find combinations.

I didn't read everything but you're just too angry at this moment I think. I get it though. warrior is the class of downsides, at least we have huntress now to have a friend that can solve partial differential equations between combos and attack times.
Earth quake is easy to use.

Rolling slam is easy to use.

Boneshatter is easy to use.

Are you talking about rolling slam? You hold the skill down and it rotates with your cursor just fyi.

They PROMISED to not affect poe1 and they actually killed poe1 for a year (last actual league was 10 months ago)

And for what? For their "vision" that no one wants and likes.


I never bought supporter packs to support poe2. I want poe2 to fail and die. I want poe1 to thrive because it's actually good game.

It's often cancelled by mini stuns, it's not easy to use. As stated the other abilities have exhorbinant trigger times out of the gate.

Sure these abilties can be made usable by hours of reading over tooltips and investing your skills into stun ristance.

Why can't these abilities just be usable and satisfying out of the gate?

Yes I know you can hold the attack to retarget, it still feels a bit clunky.
Canceled by mini stuns sounds like you are waiting until you are surrounded to attack.

Use them before, rolling slam is especially good for this. Great single target skill.



EQ is really good for this as you can pre slam it and fight around it.

People have taken issue with hammer skills since launch.

It's kind of basic etiquette to at least attempt to be somewhat concise.
You haven't put in the least amount of effort.
Putting in an apology at the start doesn't make it much better.
People complain abour warrior since launch meanwhile for me it's the most fun class. Easily leveled to 90 in 0.1 and will do the same in 0.2. People really need to start use their brains.

No. Judgemental power users such as yourself have poisoned this dialogue enough.

Let me try to communicate this again.

Just because there is a strategy that is playable, doesn't mean that that strategy is quality in an ergonomic, rewarding sense from the player perspective. Players need bread and butter ablities they can rely on 80% of the time, and higher tier players can round out their loadouts with more advanced and wider abilities.

Believe it or not, I prefer having lots of abilties that i use in various situations, but presently i'm finding that I just don't have a bread and butter ability in the very early game. That is a big problem.

I'm here trying to help make this game challenging AND fun, both can exist simultaniously.

presently GGG is spread thin balancing too many mehcanics, too many tooltips, too many abilties, and that is having a ubiquitous affect on the game. It is causing it to be lower in quality and ergonomics than it could if they let go of some of these tertiary and "unfun" challenges.

The point of this post is to try to communicate to the dev team that while their intentions are good, these excess mechanics and design bloat are an open wound that is slowly bleeding out the player experience over time.
