I'm trying to work my way through Cruel with my Pillar and a Deshret's Vise, amongst other things.

It's hard. You do terrible damage. Using melee phys and added fire, I swapped in a pretty poor, slow (1.13) two-hander doing about 130-190 damage. It almost exactly doubled my sweep damage, and this is with me currently stacking 440 strength at level 46.

I'm trying to like this item, I really am. It's exactly the type of unique I love using. But if I somehow manage to get to maps with this character, I'm going to have to accept that I'll just be a passenger and nothing more with this rate of damage gain.

I think my concern, which is shared by others, is that at no point during levelling does this item become preferable or even slightly beneficial over a mediocre rare. With its current power, it is a unique with no purpose.

The Dex effect is plenty strong.


The strength bonus really needs to multiply added phys damage- why not make it a more modifer like facebreaker(and perhaps reduce the modifer to something like 5-8% per 10 str to compensate for added synergy with existing increased damage nodes/base bonus of STR)?


The Int bonus really should give 1% effect radius per 10 int. 1% increased area is no more valuable of an effect then 1% attack speed(look at nodes & itemization) and PotCG gives 1% AS per 10 dex.

You probably don't want to hear this but here goes;

I gave up using Pillar in Act 3 Cruel after basically slowing down every party I joined as I had no damage to offer.

I started using Rigvald's Charge with cleave, mainly because the 10% ms, coupled with 10% ms on Foxshade means I'm running around with 46% increased movespeed permanently, which is very fun.

Which is a shame, as running around super fast and doing little else is preferable to attempting to bludgeon a white pack to death with Pillar. The Rigvald's also doubles my damage, and the increased AoE with 200 int wasn't noticeable so I didn't feel I lost that benefit.

I appreciate if a dev sees this it will likely appear to be a bunch of people moaning repeatedly about one thing, one weapon, one unique. But from the people who have tried to make a character around it, I think they will agree this is the weakest unique item in the game by some margin.

I can't argue against the dex effect being good, but the strength effect is far, far too weak and the int doesn't seem worth it.
