What do you consider a slog fest?

for me it is the fact that i hated to do the story in poe 1 everytime again it was just boring and long and it takes me around 15 hours every league because i just play and dont really rush but 10 acts in 15 hours is fine for me in the end... i am now at 13 hours with the huntress and i am not done with act 3.. im going into the drowned city and this means it would easy take over 30 hours for me in this pace to get to endgame and if they keep it like this i will never ever get another char to endgame.. i cant really even see that i will finish the huntress. 3 4 hits for a white mob or maybe even 30 if its a minion of a rare with a stupid mod... i am running around with a rare lvl 8 shield and lvl 11 gloves 16 boots because nothing drops and the vendors also only have white items that i could use.. and now the vision will come that you can craft those items! but with what currency?! dropped 2 regals with lvl 41 that i already used!! it doesnt feel like my char is getting better from zone to zone it just feels like i crawl through the monsters like a worm and somehow survive it. if a rare items drops its also always not for my build like 2 efin quivers from one boss.. also its not engaging to fight a boss for 5-10 min when the boss has 3 mechanics that you just dodge roll away and you dont really learn anything because there is nothing to learn at the early bosses.. definetly nothing new since we already played them in 0.1.0
different people it turns out have different opinions
If I need to press multiple buttons to kill basic white mobs and treat encounters with them like I would a rare or boss in poe 1, thats a slog.

Bosses atm are fine, taking them down at a decent speed but obviously cant facetank em either which i like.

But getting destroyed by 4 white bats after easily killing the forbidden son boss is wack.
One cannot help but wonder how such a lust for loot can affect a persons mind. Although these exiles appear to be our salvation, it would not take much for them to turn on us as easily as they fight gods and demons.

it's a game where you can find a weapon that increases your damage by 400%, or not find that weapon.

Pretty much the crux of different player experiences. One player gets good rng and another just doesnt. Ergo one cruises through fights at a comfortable pace and is only in danger of the big obvious telegraphed hits. Another is struggling to even break the es on a boss and every hit puts them on life support.

It's a slog when the "difficulty" comes from maintaining your interest while kiting for 2 mins per yellow mob.

Difficulty is not a problem. Slow progress isn't a problem.

It's meaningless meat-shield style gameplay, slow and crappy feeling movement, and advancements feeling unrewarding that constitute a "slog"

All of PoE 2 is a slog. This patch won't be different, they simply didn't change or add enough.

I just want to reiterate that this is a problem that results from your character sucking, not something which is inherent to the game. It's nothing to feel bad about. This is a game about building good characters. You built a bad one.

Wow cool so how would I improve that with the nothings that drop. Incredible feedback

But if his character sucks because there's nothing deterministic in the game that lets him build what he needs and he didn't happen to get a lucky drop it's going to feel bad.

Same thing if he's trying to build a character around an archetype that is part of the game but totally underpowered.

He's saying the game isn't fun, not that it's impossible or something.

Interesting, from some of these replies it sounds like the issue isn't so much the power of the mobs, but the amount of them relative to the size of the area.

Maybe instead of balancing around HP and damage, it should be quantity and movement speed/map size?

it would make such a big difference. the campaign has been in production for like 6 years at this point, so it's totally reasonable to suggest it be revisited to better complement all of the direct and philosophical changes made since.
Individuals in forums can only ever argue their personal opinion.

steamcharts.com on the other hand paints a picture made from data.
based on that data, only 50% of players returned for a second season.
based on the recent reviews, season 2 is rated considerably lower than season 1.

a hotfix 24h into the season reducing monster health pools also speaks more volumes than my opinion ever could.

Path of Exile ultimately is very similar to Vampire Survivor or an old Japanese Schmup. Explosions everywhere. Try not to die from epilepsy, sort your loot, then repeat.

PoE 2 partially wants to be isometric Dark Souls. WHich it is not, because Dark SOuls has a very tight mathematical base, while differences in DPS in PoE2 can be multiple orders of magnitude. This is where the slog comes in, especially on the lwoer levels.
