LA Builds... Start from Duelist or Ranger?

Which one is more viable? has anyone tried both and could suggest one or the other?

Duelist for more DPS, Ranger for more survivability.

Ranger....Well, I honestly don't think their is a reason to start as ranger. The tree sucks

It is all preference. I personally prefer Duelist for that. With the Duelist I have more Strength then a Ranger. This results in more hit points. The other good thing is they are closer to Marauder for the plus all resist. They also get more armor nodes then a Ranger. Overall I say Duelist FTW

Ranger will make it easier to level up with a bow starting out. But both are pretty similar. You do get more overall dex with ranger too. I only like duelists for lightning strike builds, honestly.

That is the most false and asinine statement I ever read lol. Rangers have the most painful leveling experience out of the three main archer possible classes.

If you knew anything about leveling a ranged class, you don't use LA until you can 4 link it, and have a sustainable mana pool or BM.

RoA/Split Arrow ranger is a really fast leveling spec. Lightning Cleave duelist might be a bit faster, but about 10x more risky and more gear dependent.

Ranger has it advantages, just because duelist got a small revamp everyone thinks that it's the new OP class - here's a hint for ya - it's not.

I played a ranger to 85 on Hardocre before it died, then re leveled another to 82 when it died as well. Then I made the switch to Duelist after the changes. I have quite a bit of experience.

The rangers early game attack speed and DPS is beyond horrible. Theres no comparison between the 2 in leveling speeds. Everytime i played ranger I wanted to pull my hair out until the switch to LA, which even then was mind numbing. Duelist has much more IAS and has access to beserking fairly early. It also has more projectile damage which scaled on split arrow.


Dont confuse the OP with bad information :)

PS what I said had nothing to do with when you use LA. Doesnt matter what class you play its standard information that you cannot support mana costs of supported LA until mid game.

I am following athenas guide and now on level 74, btw I am on default. I was able to reach 40+ in 3-4 hours. U need to get quill rain and use rain of arrow or multi arrow. Keep spamming arrows and mana flasks. Join with parties and u will be leveling without a problem. I am using duelist.
