classes feeling the same..

hey guys ive been recently trying out this game and ive notice how some of the class play very similar to each other. for example the shadow and duelist could equip a bow and play as a ranger with very little distinction between them. though the gem system is very good i think that we are receiving too much freedom with them and it makes most classes very similar to each other. i would love to see ggg implement some unique skill gem such as traps for shadows ect. as this will make the classes feel a bit more unique. Ive only been playing this game for a little while so please take that to consideration as i do not know how classes are in the higher levels

" If people choose to make the classes similar, they will be similar. I could make a witch with a bow as well if i wanted to. The classes aren't limited, which is why people are making weird combinations. |

yea thats what i realy dislike about this game. Every class is like the same only difference is the position on the passive tree

While two different classes can play very similar the flip side of the coin is that the same class can play very different depending on skill and passive specs.
If you want to play something else it's up to you to differentiate their gamplay using diffrent build and gems. If at the beginning you didn't know if your playstyle was better suited for a ranger or a duelist you could make both suit the kind of game you most like to play. |

I could see characters being similar if you go the same route in the passive tree. But I think that is what appeals to me most about this game.
If I want to try something new, the next character I make I can take a very different direction. That for me is what I think will keep the game interesting for me at least. |

I think having certain unique things for specific classes would be good. Right now there doesn't seem to be any real reason to choose one class over the other, not that I can see anyway, because you can do anything with any class. Some may be slightly less effective but overall you can do anything.
While that may be nice in certain cases I think it makes classes boring and kind of dull. I am almost willing to say there aren't even any "classes" in PoE despite each character having their own class name, just a character select screen. That's what it feels like to me. That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die. |

" I get what you are saying. All of the classes can feel the same but like others have mentioned, it is entirely up to you if you want it to be that way. I have heard talk on the Marauder Forum about people making a spell slinging Mara, you can't get any more polar opposite that that. There is a guy that runs a DW Wand Shadow and he is cleaning house with that build. With my marauder I am going to get the Headsman node and then take Flicker Strike and be a teleporting, ax wielding face wrecker. I can't wait to try that build. I don't hand out keys to beggars. Its $10 bucks for one.....go mow a lawn or something.

But that is why this game is so great, you have nearly unlimited options. As soon as you make class exclusive things, you instantly take away from this game what makes it so flexible and crazy fun.
Its like if you are born and all your life people tell you that you have no choice but to get a job in the field of biology, but you want one is the field of physics. Not too far from this game. Like in real life, you have potential to do tons of crazy unique things. Be creative and things won't seem so bland. Also who cares if someone makes a physical damage witch, does that hurt you? I personally think those types of things are awesome. Alma 48:17

" Yeah well for starters each class starts in a different spot on the tree. I have 4 diff classes and all of them are different and play completly differnt. If I was to say they were all lvl 10 then even if i wanted to at that level with that mount of skill points I couldnt make all classes the same its not possible. Rangers start closer to the bow skills than say a maurauder does. yeah you can make a mauruader use a bow but you will have to invest points in that direction and so you have to make a choice to make it like that. It would never be as efficient as a ranger at bow use due to the amount of levels you would need to get to get to the skills you wanted. So yeah I completly disagree with you about there being no reason to pick one class over the other I think it makes a world of difference and there are most defenitly classes. Also the class you pick determines some of the skill gem rewards you get so if you go a witch you are not going to get the strength gems coming at you taht often. So yeah there huge choice and freedom, part of that freedom is being able to make the choice to make every class the same, albiet to different levels. Tu Meke GGG

these freedom are good for players who are creative and smart but ive seen games how people just stick to 1 broken build and even though you could make a magic-marauder, it would not be as competitive as someone who look up the correct guide. i just think too much freedom kind of undermine the whole process of dividing up the classes and it should be more restricting while giving unique abilities for that class. i dont really see the need of having a casting marauder when i can just play a templar.
