PoE first impression: Feels like 10 year old game...

Hi all,

Played only a few games in the past few years, and I''m currently only playing Diablo 3, which is ok but not superb. I noticed some video about PoE though, and I got intrigued! Looked nice and seemed promising.

So I got myself into the beta by supporting GGG and started playing it. I really liked the environment en items and skill ideas. However, I also noticed this game has graphics and interface that remind me of games 10-15 years back... Also the gameplay is kind of rigid, not really fluent. Is this something that will evolve further and is only because of the "Beta-state", or will the final game look and play like this as well?
Right now the gameplay and looks remind me most of diablo 1 (which i liked but is kinda outdated)

Now don't get me wrong, this is not some thread to only criticize. I like the game and think it has very much potential to even grow further. As a matter of fact I very rarely post on forums, so the fact that I'm doing that right know speaks for itself. Was just wondering what you guys think...

greetings,
Freekje

Maybe you should return in a year or so, by that time this game will be much more polished than it's right now.
Nah, I'm playing it currently. :)

But you are implying that the graphics and gameplay are still worked on as well?
The only bad aspect of old games is old graphics. PoE has awesome graphics.

You're saying this game has graphics similar to games released in 1997? What?

Fallout 1 came out in 1997, right? Dude. I just won't stand for this. Not only does the game look fantastic with maxed settings and in high resolutions, it looks incredible compared to D3 and of course Grim Dawn (seriously, check their screenshots more closely).

each to their own. I really think they did an amazing job on the graphics though. To me this is how a arpg should look like. The wow graphics in diablo 3 really lost it for me. The gothic feel this game give off is just unreal. Almost looks real to me some times.

Of course this game does not have graphics like you'd see from a high budget, big studio game, but it's definitely not looking like games from 1997-2002. Just go look at some games from that period, and really look at them in their max resolution, which was 600x800 if you were lucky.

I would have to agree here. Since it plays like an older game but has a modern execution makes it easier for me to relate it to an older game like Diablo.

so called " modern" graphics in games is very colourfull and bright to immitate wow.
POE is simply different style, but its graphic is pretty good.
Animations feels a bit clunky though. Is will be worked on if i remember correctly.
I have runes, potions and total disregard of public safety.

Quite different, I think.

The game's interface is heavily influenced by older games in both functionality and appearance, and that's fine because those systems worked and this game fits the same art style. What needs to be improved in the UI?

Nearly every major patch brings improvements to the game's art and effects, but the style is here to stay.

The fluidity of movement and attack animations are probably considered to be in a working state, but could be improved later on as the game is polished up.
Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus.
First in the credits!
