XP loss leads to player count loss.

I have much more trouble motivating to play the boring one button aoe spam than handling xp loss. ZZZzzzzZzzz

Exp loss is not as damaging as the single portal system. Even in poe1 the exp loss was the same but no one complained because exp wasn't as hard to farm until level 95 because you can just continue the map using one of the remaining 5 portals if you die. Its the single portal system thats going to be a point of frustration for most players in the long run. Investing in rolling a map, reaching a particular node, getting it to stack a bunch of mechanics with precursors and then getting 1 shot by some off-screen mob and losing all that time and currency investment is just not fun.

Here is my honest opinion about what GGG should choose to improve the game:

1- One portal, no death penalty.
Way too punitive to lose loot, resources (map, currency, tablets, time etc) AND exp. This way we play very slow and we are afraid of trying new content. Definetly not enjoyable. So, if we are still having only one portal, exp loss should be removed because we are already losing too much, it's desmotivating.

2- Six portals, with death penalty scaling by level.
Even if it is an obsolete feature to add into a game, but in this case, acceptable just like in POE1. I don't care about death penalty here since we are able to go back to get our loot (in case if we die after the boss died) or to try again after dying for a one-hit out of screen skill.
Ignorance is bliss when it's not fatal.
Oblivion is the fate of all things.

People want to BEAT a game. You set a bar at level 100.

No, YOU set the bar there. This is a game that you cannot "beat", it never ends. You choose what "winning" means, and if you want it to be level 100 then you better get some practice in and stop dying.

So glad it’s staying in the game

I see you antagonizing everyone in the forums. I reported you. Bye. You do not know it is staying in game. Fact.

I think the XP loss is a great feature and I hope it stays in the game too. One-portal maps are fine too. Those two features are the forum whipping boys, but it's the other points on Valkyrie's list that need to be tweaked.

You may be used to an MMO that tries to trap you into logging in every day. GGG does not build games like that. The expected player pattern is: play for a while, then go play other games, then come back when there's new content.

My advice to you is: do that. Play another game for a while, and come back when there's new content.
They lost nearly 50% of their players since launch. This should be alarming to them. It makes me wonder if they even care.

The end is beating all the bosses and getting lvl100. Your own goals don't matter.

Yeah, that's your own goal. Not everyone has that goal. My goal is to have a good time no matter if I kill any pinnacle boss or ever reach 100.

We lose 4 hours of our xp bar, think we are staying to play for 4 more hours. Nope.

"See ya! Wouldn't wanna be ya!"

This design is 1999. It's time to get rid of it.

People want to BEAT a game. You set a bar at level 100. They realize it is not possible. Consumer is unsatisfied because they could not get the value out of game. You see they do not know that they are actually playing the game for currency, which is the real end game. They think they bought a video game to beat. My thought is you think that "They will stay until they get 100 no matter how hard it is." Which is not how the world works. There are 1000x more video game releases every day. They are gone, you cannot get them back. Ever.

My question to GGG would be: "Are you willing to die on this sword?" The player count is not showing this game to be a life changing ARPG. So you either give or our patience gives. It's going to be that simple for most of us.

I say this while full heartedly believing it has a place in PoE 1 (it's old). PoE 2. Nope not a chance. Not with this 1 portal garbage. Not if we are trying to EVOLVE ARPGs.'

I want to see this game have 1 million players. Even if I am not one of them. XP penalty alone will keep SO MANY players from staying and funding the game. Fact.

I quit PoE 1 several times due to this punishment. There is already a mental punishment to dying in a game. Yet you want to take it further. It's not how games are in 2025. They just aren't. So I really hope you can unplug parts of the vision for the health of the game. The mental health of it's players, and the only thing that matters to a business. The healthy amount of players (consumers). Let them all hit 100. No one thinks some streamer is cool because they can hit 100 and he cannot. There is no incentive except to punish the people funding the game.

Imagine dying on Call of Duty and they just straight take away your guns and revert your time spent getting them. TIME SPENT. That is what we are being robbed of here. A mechanic that makes people LOG OUT.

TLDR: Title

If you read this thanks. My interest in Path of Exile 2 would be 100 fold more if it was a game everyone got to 100 in. With a healthy player base. XP loss is not the way to that.

I love after all the whining, your only comparison is "what if a game literally took your gear away, just like POE...oh wait."

Genius work.

GGG set those goals quite literally by having lvl100 be max and no more content after the story bosses. "Have a good time" is not a goal, but an ultimatum with a game.

Maximum is not always the same as goal.
